Well, my stupid foot pain has finally been diagnosed.

Here are the symptoms:

  • Sharp pain between big toe and second toe when pressure is applied
  • Hard lump size of a small jelly bean below the surface of the skin
  • Red bruising
  • Hurts to walk, run, bike, pool run and even think about

Here is what the Podiatrist says:

  • Bug or spider byte that has calloused and just plain hurts

Are you kidding me???  I have been sidelined by a bug byte that just happens to be on the bottom of my foot?  Grrrr!!!!!!!!

It is not healing super fast either.  It has improved to the point that I can walk, but not run.  I figure I got bit Saturday at Lava Hot Springs  (ironically at the same time (more or less) as Bethany and her nasty spider bite.  So, as soon as this stupid thing heals I will be able to run again.  I am going to hack up a in-sole to give the spot some room and so no pressure is applied and see if that helps.  Lesson learned.  Don't wear sandals camping!

You need to follow the advice of dora in nemo when she says just keep swimming, just keep swimming. and then put running in that. Your getting behind the ball now, how we going to smash 2:30 when you keep letting bugs bug you? Didnt you read my blog yesterday. I ate bugs for breakfast! Now throw some dirt on that and get out there! (I hope that wasnt to harsh)

The most important question (at least for me) is are you still running NWP?

From mattrow on Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 22:32:03

I have the same question as Andy. I thought you were tougher then nails. Last thing I knew bugs didn't bit nails.

Walter- I could run, but at what cost? If by running now I delay healing by a week, all is lost. Since that is the time I have to heal before NWP.

Andy and Matt - I am still coming. I am 90% sure I will be good to go by then. The last 24 hours have been good and I still have 36 more before I will try and run to see the status of my foot. By Tuesday I will know for sure, but I think even if I have only minimal improvement I can race on it.

I know cody, better be safe than sorry. get yourself healed and be good. When I caught mono a couple of years ago, it was a death sentance to me to not run and train. Keep improving! You'll get there.
