Pool running - 45 min

I went to the Podiatrist today to make sure I was correct in my guess of what injury I had.  I was correct when pinpointing the tendon that was messed up.  I have Peroneal tendonosis.  It wasn't tendonitis as suspected, but either way I am sidelined for quite a while.  No Wasatch Back Relay for me.  I will focus on getting healed as soon as possible and getting back into it.  The doctor took x-rays to make sure I didn't have a stress fracture or a bone fragment floating off the fifth metatarsal.  No problems like that.  The main issue is that it is still pulling on the insertion point whenever I walk or even worse run.  So I need to tape the foot to help keep it immobile.  The Doc also hooked me up with a portable 'TENS' device.  It is a Electrical nerve stimulator.   I use it to relieve pain and stimulate the nerves and muscles near the injury to help it heal.  I like it.  I am using it right now.  He recommended that I lay off the biking and focus more on the pool as that will hurt it less.  So that is the plan.

Hey Cody,

Have you decided yet if you will need me for the Wasatch Back?

It looks like my wife has found a team that needs a female, so I would like to be running.

It's not a problem if you can't fit me in, but I will start to look for another team to join.

Thanks,

Steve

Cold morning for a swim.

From wheakory on Mon, Jun 09, 2008 at 23:34:14

Sorry to hear about the injury but you'll come back strong again. Your a strong competitor. Did you feel any weird problems after the marathon, or did it just flare up later?

It's amazing how all of a sudden a injury can flare up and knock you out. That's why I'm being careful with my knee.

From Cod on Mon, Jun 09, 2008 at 23:36:32

It was pretty out of the blue. I did over-extend myself on a super hilly trail run and that did me in. I recommend not doing that. Mild hills, not crazy hills with a rocky trail...

From James on Mon, Jun 09, 2008 at 23:41:01

Are you out for sure? That is a bummer! At least it wasn't a stress fracture.

From Jon on Mon, Jun 09, 2008 at 23:48:52

Primarily hilly runs right after a hard marathon... that is what seems to get you. It seems you need extra time to recover after a marathon- can't push it too hard for 2-4 weeks.

From Jon on Mon, Jun 09, 2008 at 23:49:58

That stinks you can't do WBR. Did he give you an idea of when you could start running again?

From cody on Tue, Jun 10, 2008 at 09:53:22

No idea on the time frame. It is completely up to me and how I heal. He didn't even guess when it would heal. It has to stop hurting first....Day at a time..

Yes James, I am out.

From Jon on Tue, Jun 10, 2008 at 09:56:14

Did he say if getting a cast or walking boot would help?

From jtshad on Tue, Jun 10, 2008 at 10:06:34

Sorry to hear about the injury, at least now you know what it is and can treat it. Too bad about WBR, we will miss you.

From cody on Tue, Jun 10, 2008 at 10:14:39

Yeah, going to the doc was just a validation of what I thought it was. Didn't change much, but at least there is no "what if" in the back of my mind. Plus I got a cool electrode stimulation machine. I had better put it on the abs and get abs of steel.

Jon- cast of walking boot is un-necessary. I do have to tape it though so it limits mobility to some degree.

From wildbull on Tue, Jun 10, 2008 at 10:16:32

Sorry about the news Cody. keep your spirits up. at least it is nt a stress fracture!

From Jon on Tue, Jun 10, 2008 at 10:22:45

What are your chances for NWP?

From cody on Tue, Jun 10, 2008 at 10:25:58

Thanks Bull-

Jon- Still pretty good. I am still planning on it.

From Superfly on Tue, Jun 10, 2008 at 11:36:00

That sucks Cody. It seems like this year everyone has gone the rounds with something. Last summer was better so far- No one was injured, Everyone was getting PR's all over the place. I guess the more we all run the more pron to injury and mishap we are.

From Sasha Pachev on Tue, Jun 10, 2008 at 13:26:42

Contact Jeff McClellan if you have not already. His brother Andrew is willing and anxious to run in the relay.

From Chad on Tue, Jun 10, 2008 at 13:33:51

Cody--be patient and you will get over your foot issue sooner than you think. Enjoy the pool, do what you can. St. George is still a long ways away.

From Dustin on Tue, Jun 10, 2008 at 23:03:22

I guess as long as Sasha is making suggestions for Wasatch replacements. I really think Bill Campbell (wildbull) would be a nice addition. True we could probably find someone faster than Bill, as well as me and probably half of the other guys on the team. However, he has been a consistent blogger and I would believe is known by most of the guys already on the team, has really been training hard this year, and has probably been the biggest support to Steve Hooper and his running store (who by the way, is one of the sponsors of the team)

From Dustin on Wed, Jun 11, 2008 at 00:51:58

Sorry to hear about the injury. Which foot is it? I do have a walking boot if you think you would ever need one. Hope the pool running goes well and you can bounce right back from this injury.

From cody on Wed, Jun 11, 2008 at 10:52:25

Dustin-

I agree that Bill would be great. If we need another person I will be in contact with him.

My injury is on the left foot. So far, I haven't needed a walking boot, but if it doesn't progress I will probably want to borrow it. Thanks

What the heck? Cody, you were doing so well this year! In fact look at the photo of you and me in ogden, i was admiring the one coming down the canyon, your legs look so freakin good in that photo! I wish my skinny legs were that ripped! Honestly, check that photo out. If its not in your photos then look in my group of photos. Heal quick and we can still shoot for 2:30's in October. Be good.
