Recovery run.

5:13 am, 44° F, 87% humidity, winds calm, light mist followed by light rain.

Well, this was my first sub-6 am run since April 15. I'm having to get back into the sub-6 club for the next several weeks, though I would prefer not to, as cool as it is.

The flip side of this two-hard-day-in-a-row pattern that I've got for the next few weeks is that I've also got two recovery days in a row, such as yesterday and today. I need to be well rested up for Friday and Saturday this week. I'm a little anxious about doing a tempo run tomorrow after my crash and burn on my tempo run last week. Tomorrow's actually supposed to be a tune-up race, but there's no race to go to, so I'm going to do a tempo run instead.

The ground was wet when I went outside this morning, but it wasn't raining. However, there was a light mist in the air, enough to make my glasses wet. Around the end of the 4th mile, I realized that it was raining lightly. That continued for the rest of my run, but had stopped by the time I drove to seminary shortly thereafter. I was pretty wet, but not soaked, by the time I finished the run.

AP: 10:16. Splits: 10:41, 10:22, 10:14, 10:11, 9:52.

Welcome back to the sub 6 club. I'm finding that I warm up pretty quickly, but my hands stay cold the whole time. So I usually wear shorts & gloves. I'm sure it looks silly, but who cares about fashion & style at 5 am?

You had a nice recovery pace. Good luck on your tempo tomorrow. Hopefully the two recovery days will be just what you need to meet your goal.

What is your distance plan for Saturday?

From Tracy on Thu, Apr 22, 2010 at 09:42:47 from 209.175.177.37

Good run today. Are you going to do another recovery run later today, or is that only a once a week thing in the plan?

You didn't exactly go down in flames on your tempo last week--if I recall (and I'm too lazy to look it up), you were only a little slow on your pace and you ended a little early. But you still did it and got some pace practice for a significant amount of time.

You'll do great tomorrow.

I looked outside probably when you were finishing and it looked a bit rainy. I debated running or not. But when I ran I came home completely dry. At least you missed the downpour yesterday afternoon. Great job on your recovery run and getting it done so early!

nice progression run.

QP, I've got 18 miles on Saturday.

Tracy, I'm done for today. The two/day thing is just once a week.

Michelle, Annie had to walk home from the bus stop in the downpour yesterday afternoon. Her clothes were soaked. Her shoes are still wet. She's upset that I didn't pick her up from the bus stop, but I was inside the office building at work away from a window and didn't realize what was going on.

The early bird catches the worm.

It's snowing here in Davis Co. this morning. Ridiculous!

Snow! Yikes!

It was pouring rain on my drive to work just now. And if the forecast is to be believed, there's no end in sight.

From RAD on Thu, Apr 22, 2010 at 15:09:17 from 67.172.229.125

We don't have snow down here. I actually slept with the windows cracked open to hear/smell the fresh rain.

Nice work on your recovery run, sorry about the early mornings - they are SO hard! You are dedicated to it though, and I think all this will pay off immensely at the race!

Good luck on your tempo run tomorrow - I'm guessing last week you were still feeling the effects of being sick. And I hope the rain abates for your next couple runs; we've had lots and lots of rain, with a smattering of snow, at my house!

From auntieem on Thu, Apr 22, 2010 at 20:47:32 from 24.18.77.246

I am sure your tempo run will go well, Carolyn! Two recovery days in a row is a good plan. Sorry you have to get out so early again; I'm back to that as well. Our track workouts at 5:30 have begun again. At least its light!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Thu, Apr 22, 2010 at 20:59:36 from 24.8.167.243

Is it light for you at 5:30 am, auntieem? We don't get light until a little after 6:00, I think.
