Easy run.

9:26 am, 54-57° F, 38% humidity, wind 20 WNW.

I didn't have time to run early this morning because I had to cook a birthday breakfast for my husband, drive my son to seminary, and be on a conference call for work from 8:00 to 9:00 (during which time I had to drive my daughter to school). So after everyone was off to school and my conference call was over, I got dressed and headed out for my run.

It is rarely very windy when I run early in the morning. The wind doesn't get going until it warms up. So today I got to run in the wind. It's not the East Central Illinois wind that Tracy has to deal with, but it was much more wind than I'm used to.

I ate better yesterday and I wrote down everything that I ate. But it was quite a struggle and I was hungry a lot. But maybe that's because I probably didn't eat quite enough. I think I was around 1000 calories for the day. I probably should eat a little more than that, but not too much more. Getting enough calories shouldn't be a problem today. It's my husband's birthday, and so we'll be going out to dinner, probably to a Mexican restaurant. I will try not to eat any chips.

1000 calories? That isn't a lot of calories.

I found this interesting:

http://nutrition.about.com/od/changeyourdiet/a/calguide.htm

It's a calorie calculator. You put in your height, current weight, and desired weight and then it tells you how many calories you can consume to maintain OR to lose weight. It even tells you what you should consume with exercise.

I know I'm taller than you, but mine says I should be eating around 2500 calories (with 60 minutes of exercise a day) to maintain my weight. I also know that you don't want to maintain your weight, but 1000 calories seems too little to maintain a body that runs 5-6 miles a day.

I agree that 1000 is too few. I haven't been counting calories lately, so I need to get back into the habit.

I tried that website that you suggested. It had this to say:

If you exercise for 60 minutes each day, you will be able to reach your goal weight with 2369.5 calories per day.

I probably average out to about 60 minutes/day of exercise. However, I think that 2369 calories is too high for me based on my past experience. When I lost weight before, I ate about 1800 calories/day (maybe more on the weekend) and lost about 2 lbs/week. I think I'll shoot for 1600 to 1800 calories/day now.

That plan sounds awfully good - and familiar :)

Nice job keeping the miles steady and working out a way to workout!

You had me worried there for a second. Thus the overreaction :)

Do you use a website to tally up your calories consumed? I bet that I severely underestimate just how much I consume, (like I think I'm eating a serving, but I'm really eating 2).

From Carolyn in Colorado on Thu, Mar 31, 2011 at 15:53:56 from 71.229.134.155

Yes, I've used various websites. Not sure which one I used last night. I also look at packages if the things are packaged. I probably underestimate. For example, yesterday I had 1/2 peanut butter sandwich. The peanut butter jar says that a serving is 2 tablespoons. I just put on a thin layer of peanut butter, maybe 1 tablespoon if that, and then I only ate half of it, so I counted about 1/4 of the calories that the jar said for a serving. (I just ate the other half of the same sandwich today.)

Yes, Rachel, we've been here and done this before, haven't we.
