Easy run.

6:39 am, 20° F, 60% humidity, winds calm.

I took advantage of the fact that college boy is still home.He could be with his little sister and I could go out a little later and not have to be back before boy #3 left for school. I believe college boy slept through it all, but oh well.

I was slow this morning and I had to slow down even more from time to time because of ice.

Good start to the year though. I'm looking forward to getting out today and testing out my new micro spikes, no slipping!

You're brave for running when there's ice out. That is one thing I won't try.

Do your yak trax help with ice, or are they just for snow?

I think my son is preparing for college by sleeping all day.

Good start to the year!

I've been away from checking people's blogs lately and I finished catching up on yours! Life has been busy for you lately and feel your pain on the lost motivation. Maybe this week will find you back in the game! I wish you well in getting back to the good ol Carolyn, plugging away at all the miles. I bet this lapse will help you to come back stronger!

Excellent start to the year. I'm glad your son was there to help you out - they still have to be good for something :)

I'm curious about the yak trax too. Almost bought a pair, but some people say they break and are too flimsy, do you get them a size smaller to be secure? How does it feel if there is only snow/ice to run through some of the time? Do they bother you on the regular road?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Jan 04, 2011 at 12:54:03 from 198.241.174.15

I wear the yaktrax only if the vast majority of the ground I'm going to be running on is snow covered. On this run, I ran on sidewalks which were mostly clear. There were just icy spots in places, mostly through intersections, so I didn't wear the yaktrax. When I do wear them, they're okay if I get a little bit of dry road, but I wouldn't want to wear them on a run that was mostly dry road.

I think they're better on snow than on ice. I think they would still be slippery on ice, but maybe it depends how smooth the ice is. They're slippery on my kitchen floor.

Good run, Carolyn! It is intimidating to get out there on ice. I, like you, bring out the yaktrax for mostly snow; they seem to work best on the hard packed snow/ice.

I was feeling sick last week and so I didn't run. Now I'm just overwhelmed by life and responsibility and I'm struggling to get myself out of bed in the morning, especially since it's been something like 0 degrees in the mornings this week. I was going to try to run this morning, but I decided to get up and do housework instead. I need to take a week off work and catch up on the house and then maybe I'll be able to run.

I'm overwhelmed with worry and responsiblity right now.

Thank you for your concern.

WELL, we love you!!! I hope things get better soon and that you are at least over the cold! And, you are right, it is way too cold to run out there. Stay inside where it is warm, even if it means housework!
