Easy run + 6 x 10 sec. hill sprints.

Weather: Maybe about 48-50°F.

I ran naked this morning. In other words, my Garmin had a dead battery. So I have no pace or good weather information. I don't know how that happened because I thought I charged it after my run on Saturday. I had to reset it a few days ago. I hope it's not giving out on me. I've only had it for a year.

My husband and I both talked to our mothers yesterday and they each seem to misunderstand this marathon endeavor, but in different ways. My mom is just worried and wanted to make sure that there would be someone to drive me to the finish line when I collapse on the course. My mother-in-law, on the other hand, said to my husband, who is overweight and badly out-of-shape, "Why don't you run it with her?"

My mom did say that one of my niece's might be able to drive my mom up to Ogden to watch the finish of the race.

Gosh, why doesn't MIL just run it with you too? How funny. Well, you'll have some educating to do, or else just let them wonder and worry. lol

BTW, you should read Sasha's and my comments on Rattletrap's blog from last Friday, about nerves. Be calm and have a happy week! Hope it helps! :D http://rattletrap.fastrunningblog.com/blog--7-30am-My-goal-today-was-to-run-2/05-08-2009.html

I'm sure your MIL thinks it's not that hard to do what you do...and I find that extremely funny. She probably also thinks that her boy is superman.

My mom is like your mom--so incredibly worried that her baby is going to get hurt and will need rescuing. That is so like a mom.

I hope your garmin isn't on the fritz, but I still think it's good every once in a while to not be concerned with pace. I'm sure you still ran well.

Just make sure you have it ready for Saturday!!! If I lived anywhere Utah, I'd come to cheer you on, but it sounds like you'll get some fans!

Nice miles today! You are really going to rock this marathon! Hope your garmin isn't broke.

My family is pretty understanding about the marathon. Since I have run a few before they really don't seem to think too much about it anymore. My MIL is funny only because she just can't understand why I would want to do it.

To further enforce your perceptions of my mother and MIL, when I was in Utah in March I stayed most of the time at my in-laws house and went each morning to Sasha's house to run with blog people. If my MIL was concerned about my running with a bunch of people I met on the internet, she didn't say so. However, she did ask one morning if I "walked" with those people again (I've posted about this before, I think.)

I spent one night that week at my mother's house and the next morning ran with Craig (Jun from the blog). My mother was sure that either he was an ax murderer or I was going to have an afair with him. I kind of got after her for just being critical of my running and not being supportive, and so I'm sure that's why she's going to try to come watch the end of the marathon.

Ah, motherly guilt. I find it interesting that mothers still feel that guilt, no matter how old their kids are. I guess it just never stops.

Great job keeping up the miles. I run into these types of misperceptions quite a lot, they can range of amusing to annoying. I'm sure both mother and mother-in-law will eventually "get it". Hopefully your garmin will work flawlessly throughout the race, but don't panic if it flakes out on you. Happened to me twice. First time threw me off a little bit, second time was not a big deal because I had prepared for the possibility.

The first time my Garmin battery went out during a run I had to stop for about a half a minute and figure out that yes, I could still run without my garmin! LOL!

From Bonnie on Mon, May 11, 2009 at 12:44:52 from 128.196.228.134

ha ha ha ha JD -- that is too funny.

This is why we have the blog, so we can share our experiences with people who "get it".

Back to misconceptions, the joke around our house is that I only ran this marathon because after 6 years of running and racing I got tired of people asking, "so you run, do you run marathons". So, now, I can say, "I am a runner and yes I have run a marathon". I am a legitimate runner now. Though I will feel a tiny more legit when I can get my 10K pace less than 7 min/mile ;-).

From edrickt on Mon, May 11, 2009 at 15:53:14 from 64.2.220.135

Both my parents think you have just "so many miles in you." They think I'm going to run out prematurely because I log (to them) a lot of miles. I have to remind them that they still haven't run out and they're almost in their nineties. These misperceptions will begin to fade as we encourage more people to join us on the roads.

I'm excited to see how you do in Ogden, C. I'm sure this is going to be a great week!

JD--I hope I don't get that way when I get mine! LOL

Bonnie and Carolyn--my family thinks that all I run is marathons...Mom said to me the other day that she told my aunt that i was running a marathon at the end of the month--I'm like mom it is a 5k...she says oh well you know what I mean...ohjeez. BTW--never ran a marathon...just a 1/2...silly mom's
