Easy run.

I ran with Carly this morning. She's turning into a great running buddy. She's planning a 10 mile race in the Fall, so she's motivated to run regularly right now. Today we talked about animal sacrifice, among other things. She spent a semester in Nepal when she was in college and witnessed the sacrifice of a goat. She also said if they couldn't afford a goat, they used a zucchini instead and stuck sticks in it so that it would stand up like an animal. This subject  came up because I'm reading a book called The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. It's about a Hmong family from Laos who came to California as refugees in the 80s. They had a daughter with severe epilepsy. The book is about the conflict between the Hmong culture and religion and Western medicine. There is quite a bit of discussion of animal sacrifice in the book. Carly recommended the book to me.

I've got to decide whether I'm going to get up early tomorrow morning and drag myself up to Georgetown to run that half marathon that I foolishly registered for. It could really go either way at this point.

AP: 9:54. Splits: 9:53, 10:00, 9:48, 9:58, 9:49.

That book sounds good! I am looking for some books about viet nam, but that is kinda close and I think I will try it. Thanks!

Waiting to hear whether you raced or not!
