Pretty solid hour on the spinner. My hip, inner thigh and now hammy are just too sore to muster a run. My body is failing me... at the Dr's office the other day he said "maybe your just getting old".

The hamstring is an antagonist to the psoas muscle so it's probably just a lot of compensation. Does the bike not bother you at all?

Very minor pain on the bike. The hip seems to "catch" at times and it seems like the power output is lower on the (hurt side- left). So I'm having an efficiency problem because I wear down much much faster than normal. That goes for any activity- running, biking, walking...

yes

Okay. Well, if that's due to bursitis I know that a cortisone injection is very common and can alleviate the pain in that bursa. You might want to look into that. Sometimes an oral steroid like prednisone will do the trick. Does ibuprofen work?
I've also been rolling on a softball between the abs and the hipbone and it does a pretty good job of loosening that muscle up. Lots of stretching too.

Thanks so much. With your help I think we're on to something here. Really knowing what hurts is sometimes the hardest part... Then you at least know how to start fixing it.
Ibuprofen does work but I'm hesitant to take it daily which is what I'd need to "train". So I'll usually only dose up once or twice a week combined with a rest day for best results.

Andrea has a PHD/MD/Nobel Prize in knowledge of random, hard to diagnose hip injuries.

lol. I may need to come in for a check up and get all the do's and don'ts to try and get on top of this thing. It's been by far the most painful and depressing injury yet. Pain to just sit up in bed or lift one leg over another to roll out of bed... let alone running.

I've had several docs and PTs tell me to take 400-600mg twice daily for 10 days straight to try to get the inflammation under control. But after that, you have to stop completely to prevent the bad effects from constant use. Probably still shouldn't up the training though :)
This didn't work for me, but your problem is a little different from mine. Honestly, a steroid dose pack seems like a potentially more effective treatment if your doctor will prescribe it (and if you don't want to try the injection route yet).

And I agree - this is the worst injury. I'd rather have a stress fracture, as bad as that is!

You deserve a break from these nagging injuries man. You're an inspiration though for being able to push through the pain and find other means to stay active. Hopefully Lady Luck turns your way soon.
Don't listen to that getting old crap from the doctor either.

Dude, your a stud and you have a long way to go before your considered old! I hate to be the one to say this but you might be well served to take some serious time off... I would keep working on the injury but your pushing your body to the brink kiddo. Just saying:)

Thanks guys.
Clay I'm just too scared to back off. It's hard to just let fitness get flushed down the potty.
