I didn't get anything set up with the guys yesterday so just got up and ran solo this morning. Did 5 miles from my house over to the River trail by B-hills. Then hit the 10 mile DC/ Bloomington club run loop. Then the same 5 miles back home. It was a super morning for a run. I had the alarm set for 4:30 but woke at 3:45 so I was basically out running by 4:30. 40 F, calm and a nice moonlight to run in. I felt pretty good too. Groin/hernia pain was only down around a 2 and felt very runnable. I didn't have any tempo or workout plans. Rather just warmed up with a 7:50, 7:20, 7:15 and then kind of stuck it in 6:30 gear the rest of the run give or take. Ended with a 6:48 avg for the run. Just felt good today. Granted the pace wasn't hard but in general I had some positive mojo and a glass half full attitude. Glad I got up for this one.

Solid run Clyde. Glad to see that the groin pain wasn't too bad. I was fighting something similar last year while living in Portland. I eventually went to see the trainer for Portland State athletes and my pain was coming from extremely tight hamstrings. I would double over in pain with every sneeze, cough, and even steps off/on the sidewalk while running. Anyway, consistent stretching if my hamstrings and the lain has gone away completely. Hope your recovery is smooth and doesn't require surgery.

Anyway, no pressure :) but I signed up for the Newport marathon tonight. Oregons largest newspaper reported last week that the race is nearing capacity. They cap it at 900 and have less than 10% left. It would be sweet if we could tag team that course, but again, no pressure. I know it's a long way to travel and not the easiest location to get to. I can tie it into a work trip so it's easy for me...

Let me know what you decide. The Oregon coast is incredible and you'd be only 2 hours from Pre's old stomping grounds so you could swing by and pay your respects. Haha...

Dude thanks so much for that info! I'd love for it to be linked to my hammies and not a real hernia. Since the hammies have been tight on and off for like 4 years that's a good possibility.

The last couple weeks I've kind of bagged a spring or summer marathon because of the pain and symptoms related with my issues. But as it's felt better it's also peaking my interest again. I'll take another good look at the whole Oregon trip and see what the wife really wants to do. We'll look tonight. Did you just register for the race straight up or did you call and talk to the RD and get comped?

I typed my fist message on an iPad and misspelled a number if words. You got the just of things though, eh?

I was thinking more about the groin pain.... I work in the medical field and talked with a number of doctors about it. Even visited hernia clinics and was certain that was my issue. It lasted for months and in addition to what I wrote previously, I can remember the pain in my lower abs when I was laying down and tried to lift my head off the pillow and that was brutal! Situps were out of the question. Is that similar to what you're experiencing? The sports med doc @ Portland State diagnosed my situation in 20 seconds when he saw how tight my hamstrings were. Anyway, hope that helps.

As for Newport, I just went ahead and signed up without asking for a comp. Its a small-ish race that's non-profit (proceeds go to the local schools) so I didn't feel right about asking for a free entry. That's just me though. Feel free to give it a try.

By the way, I'll have my wife and 2 boys (ages 3 and 1) with me. We're planning on getting to Newport Friday mid-day and stay through Sunday.

Well on the groin front I think your first hand info was spot on. The more I loosen up the hammy the better things feel in the abs and groin. This may be too personal for the blog but did you have pain in your testicles? Two weeks ago at the peak of my pain with this it hurt all the way down into the right one. But feeling much better now. And I don't think it's a hernia because there isn't a sack or bump sticking out of my belly.

My wife is leaning more to going to San Diego for the June race if we do one. It's still not set in stone but I guess if the Oregon race sells out before I register then that's how it was meant to be. I'm actually ok with either race or maybe something totally different. Anyways at this point we just haven't decided.

Thanks so much for all your help!

Yeah, I also experienced similar pain, when the issue was at its peak. More of a dull pain, whereas the pain in my lower and was a sharp, piercing type of pain. Good luck and hopefully it becomes a thing of the past.

No worries on the June marathon. I understand that San Diego is much more exciting (and closer for that matter) but selfishly I hope you change your mind. ;-)

Keep me posted and I'll keep my fingers crossed.
