6.5 miles this morning around golf course loop

10 miles this afternoon from my house to in-laws house

My morning run was slow and relaxed. Really enjoyed just being out. This afternoons run was a different story. We had Paula's Mexican food for lunch and I thought I had waited long enough to go out. Sorry. .8 miles into my 10 mile run I was getting sick to my stomach. I should have just came back home but- I would never do that. Just kept pushing along wishing it would go away. By mile 3 I was in pain- I was spitting, dry heaving, and had some bad heart burn action. This continued up to around mile 8 and from there in maybe I was just numb to the pain and just finished the run.

Lesson learned - Never eat at Paula's again before a run. I should rule her out all together because it's not even that good.

The good thing was because of all the drama in my stomach and stuff I didn't even think about how fatigued I was or how sore my legs were. So I guess you win some and lose some.

It seems like a lot of the Mexican food joints around town are heading downhill. I used to love Paula's and your right now it is just blah. Nice miles this week. I can tell my legs are ready for a little break. So hopefully I can push through this week and next week with the beginning of track I'll back down to 60 for a recovery week and then gear back up with some fresh legs.

I feel your pain Brother. My Buffet lunch just did not go well with my work out. I am impressed with all your miles.

Clyde - for that very reason, with some very rare exceptions I never eat out. When I do, it is always the health food cafe at Good Earth in Orem or Provo. I do not know the difference for me between eating whatever and eating right, but I know the difference of cutting out white flour, red meat, and milk products and replacing them with nuts, fruit, vegetables, grains, and fish - 6 minutes in the marathon. That is going from not eating any kind of junk food, sweets, or soda pop. Everyone has different degrees of tolerance to less than ideal diet, but I would not be surprised if you improved 10 minutes in the marathon if you followed the rule of never eating below the best of your knowledge.

Sasha- Most of the time I do a pretty good job at monitoring what I eat and don't eat. As far as eating out. I have to. It's not a question. During the day when I'm at our office or out working that's the only way I can get food. But most of the time I try and order smarter than I did yesterday.

As far as your diet goes I will try and follow some of those guidlines. Although I love yogurt too much to give it up. Why do milk products make you run slower?

Clyde:

I do not handle lactose very well. So the milk part of it is probably just for me. However, no red meat,no white flour, no sweets (except naturally sweet stuff), no junk will probably work very well for everybody.

You can experiment with yogurt to see what happens with and without it.

There might also be some special magic foods you have to have daily to run better. For me it is several servings of nuts, a bowl of raw oats, and a variety of fruit.

You can get food without eating out when away from home. It will take some work to research though. When I travel, I bring with me some Spanish peanuts, dried fruit (dates and/or figs), and bananas, along with some whole wheat bread. I usually get Ezekiel 4:9 or Genesis 1:27 from Good Earth. Mix the peanuts, the dried fruit, and bananas into a bowl and eat it with a spoon like a cereal. Sometimes add some soy milk.

If for some reason I forgot to bring my lunch, I'd rather have an impromptu detox day than eat out. Or maybe buy some fruit at a grocery store to snack on.

I really don't know how you do it Sasha. My body is always craving food. I could do better on my diet, but I have done things like replace my mid-morning junk food snack with a pb and honey sandwich and try to snack on a bowl of mush after dinner. But still, it seems I am constantly eating.
