My wife came up with this idea to go run this 10k while we were in Vegas. So I thought I'd go do it. Wow! This was the hardest 10k I've ever raced. Even harder than my legs of the Del Sol Relay. It was located right up by the LDS Temple in Las Vegas. If you think Vegas you think flat but this is one of the only hill areas in town.

Splits went like this.

1. 5:49- Left high school and started the long uphill

2. 6:16- Hill gets steeper here. Pack startes to fall off.

3. 5:52-Still uphill with just a little level section

4. 6:19- Really steep section. Half of this mile is up to the turn around and the other half is back down.

5. 5:09- A good all downhill mile

6. 5:39- by now I can't catch the lead guy and I'm way ahead of the 3rd place guy so I just bring it in easy. No surges just smooth pace.

.26 1:30 Finally done.

We started out at a pretty fast pace for this course. One guy went out soo fast I knew he was going to choke. After we finished the first mile and a half the lead pack was down to about 5 and three miles into it we were at only 3 of us. Just after the three mile mark the guy who won the race surged and I didn't go with him thinking that I'd for sure run him down later. I pulled ahead of the 3rd place guy for good right after the halfway point and then started to try and reel in the leader. But he was gone. I let him slip away and didn't really care.

After I finished I ran back up the course a mile and a half to find my wife Mik'L and ran with her back to the finish. She did a good job on this very demanding 10k course.

We stayed for the awards to find out that I got this 3ft tall trophy for 2nd place... a little over the top, but oh well. I'd rather have gotten a medle and a gift certificate.

MIle total for the week was a little low but I hadn't planned on this race and needed to get ready for it. Also with the speed workout that we did on Tuesday night my legs have been feeling it all week. One more good stronge week and then it's time to get ready for Teton.
