I warmed up and the legs were feeling sluggish, but that wasn't a problem because sometimes I run really well like that. It was warmer than the day before and windy. I relaxed the first lap and went through in about 72. The problem was I was in the very back and the leaders were already long gone. I was right around 5 minutes through 1600, but my back started to hurt like 1000 meters in. It is so hard to fight when my body does that. I tried but just couldn't do it. I was extremely disappointed to run my slowest time all season..... I didn't even cooldown because I wasn't running the 800 with my back like that and am done with my high school career in competition. I helped out with the meet and cheered people on through the rest.
After the meet was over and Davis did their celebration, Karson and I were sitting at the top of the bleachers taking in the moment. It was pretty crazy. Buhrley didn't make us go to the TEAM meeting after. We were both crying. There are a lot of memories on that track, and I wouldn't trade in any of them. It was tough. Karson being the great guy said something along the lines of, "It'll be all right, we've got bigger and better things ahead of us." That meant the world to me. I couldn't ask for better TEAMmates
