Short-Term Running Goals: Run St. George in under 3:30; be in the top 3 in my age group Long-Term Running Goals: Stay strong, run well for many more years. Still set PR's in my 50's.
Learn how to run more relaxed and efficient. Personal: I'm married with four children. I run with a group called the Bingham Butt-Kickers, a really fun group of people that gets me out running early on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and sometimes Saturdays. I recently found out that I've been running with poor form for many years, which has probably contributed to some nagging aches and pains I've had for years. One of my big goals now is to be able to run with better form and to have running feel more effortless. I hope this won't take too many years to achieve! |

We met at the Bingham track today. I'm trying to have a better attitude about the track. Thinking about running on it seems to stress me out. I realized today that if I just get in a good warm-up and feel loose, not tense, that I enjoy it more.
So we did 3 one mile repeats. The first I started out with Michelle M., Cheris and Greg. They were running a fast pace but I just felt like I wanted to stay with them, so that's what I did. The time was 7:13, the fastest mile I've run on the track in over a year. But I felt pretty wasted, so the next one was slower, 7:45. The third I had a little more energy, and did that in 7:29. The last part of the workout was to run two 400s. I really didn't feel like it, but Rachel wanted to (thank you Rachel!), so we ran it. The first I did in 1:39. I didn't want to do the second, but again Rachel said let's do it, so I did, and I'm really glad I did. I felt like I finished strong on that one. Time was 1:35. I was especially happy because it's been a long time since I've been in the 1:30's for a 400. And the best part is I hardly felt sick at the end. It feels good to feel good once again and to finally get my times down to where they've been in the past. I still feel like my thyroid is a little high, so maybe we'll have more improvement in the weeks to come. | Comments(1) |

| | Met the group at Bingham. Since it seems like just about every member of the group is doing some portion of the Ogden marathon, we took it very easy today. And did I enjoy the run! Whose idea is it to do speed work anyway? If I could run like we did today every day I might learn to enjoy running again. We just kind of meandered around, no set course, just wherever we (or maybe I should say "I") wanted to go. Great morning, great company, great run. What more can I say? Here's some more. Later, my daughter and her boyfriend wanted to do a hike, so I said I'd go along and show them a fun hike in Millcreek Canyon. I was thinking we'd hike for an hour or so. It ended up being 3 hours, a lot of it on a hilly trail. My 9 year old was with us too, plus my 12 year old dog (does that make him 84 in human years?) It was tough, but everybody held up and I think we thought it was fun. But no running for me on Friday, a total rest day. | Comments(2) |
| | I'm putting my mileage as it is because I did run from my car to the BYU track to watch the state track meet. That's about it for me today. I said yesterday that there would be no exercise for me today, and I stuck with it. | Add Comment |
| | I was up early to get a run in because I knew it would be tough any other time of the day. I got on the treadmill and ran 8 miles, 5 of it pretty easy, 3 or it somewhat intense. I then went to Provo to watch the finals of the state track meet. It was a great day for us. My son runs for Bingham, and they won all the relays, which had never been done before at the 4A or 5A level at a state track meet. He runs on the medley relay and the 4x400 relay. He also had a great run in the open 400, setting a Bingham school record at 48.3 seconds. He finished in 3rd place in 5A, and 4th place in all the divisions. He was very happy. He's had a somewhat frustrating track season, so it was good to see him put it all together and do well at state. | Comments(6) |
