Short-Term Running Goals:

I want to run 3-4 days a week, and increase the mileage on my long run each week.

Long-Term Running Goals:

In 2009 I would like to do 2 half marathons and 1 sprint triathlon.

Personal:

I have always been athletic, but started running more seriously at the start of 2007. I had to take a few months off in the summer and fall. I had twins boys in Oct 2007 (hence the time off). I lost a lot of weight when I had them, but managed to gain some of it back. We have a double stroller, which is the hardest workout when I take the boys for a jog.

I have been trying to increase my Saturday long runs by 1 mile a week, so I set out to do 6 today.  I was pretty happy with the distance.  I took my husband's Garmin with me to get the distance correct.  I have decided in the past few weeks, that I really just don't like running with a watch, because then I am more concerned with the time, and it just depresses me.  It took me about 1 hour and 20 minutes to do this run, and I think probably at about a 13+ minute mile average pace.  I know I am not fast, but I did get the distance.

Now for some feedback from you all....  I want to do the half marathon in September, so I wanted to just add 1 mile to each of my long Saturday runs.  So next week I would do 7.  I am wondering though if I should first get more comfortable with this 6 mile distance and improve my time before I move on to 7 miles?  The longest run I have ever done was a couple of 10Ks.  Which is 6.2 miles, I went 6.3, which makes this the longest run I have ever done.  So yeah, I am just wondering if I should get more comfortable here before I try longer distances.  What do you think?

1/2 marathons are great. I wish I could give you some advice on how to increase your mileage, but I'm not too educated on that. Sorry.

My thought is that any increase is better than none. If one mile a week works for you, great. Maybe try two miles one week just to see how it feels!

Good luck.
