I've been running consistent miles lately.  I start at a pace, and I'm able to stick with it.  Perhaps I should try to run a marathon by starting off at a 6:30 pace.

So I was running down the street (either I'm about to start a rap song or a country western song), and I see this guy that's in my brother-in-law's ward.  I don't know his name, but he was instrumental in my BIL's baptism.  Anyway, he saw me and said, "Hi Burt."  Now I have to figure out what his name is and commit it to memory.

At the 4.5 mile point I saw this guy running on the opposite of Val Vista.  He's got to be in his late 50's, but he had a great pace going.  We simultaneously waved at each other.  Now, had he been on my city block, I would have been a bit jealous.  I own my block.  People can run on it, but they're not allowed to be faster than me.  But as it was, I was quite to content to let him own the adjacent city block.  And by the way, people can run on my city block, but stay the heck off my street.  You better believe that when I see someone running on my street, I immediately go out and give them the hardest stare down they've ever had.

Time - 44:21 (avg. pace 8:09)

Splits - 8:09, 8:10, 8:14, 8:09, 7:58, 3:41 for 0.44 (8:19 pace)

Nice splits Burt!

Nice pace Burt.

Have you tried tagging your street. It seems to be a popular method of marking one's territory.

Out B-dawg!

From Chad Robinson on Tue, Nov 09, 2010 at 11:56:13 from 67.136.62.186

You could try urinating. It works for cats.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Tue, Nov 09, 2010 at 11:59:16 from 72.102.27.95

I'm down with taggin' yo street dog. I should do that too.

Nice splits! Do you feel better overall when your splits are consistent like that? I ran some really even miles today and couldn't believe how good I felt.

From Burt on Tue, Nov 09, 2010 at 12:08:51 from 206.19.214.144

Toby - thanks!

JD and Chad - how about I tag my neighborhood in my urine? I actually did that in cross country to a high school in Vegas. The stupid place had its bathrooms locked. So we peed on the wall, and I started writing my name. I didn't have enough to cross my T, though.

Trap - It did feel good. I think I'm always the same amount of tired when I finish running whether I go slow or fast. It's just that sometimes the recovery is quicker.

From Kim on Tue, Nov 09, 2010 at 18:01:59 from 67.199.180.90

If you don't cross the T that makes BURL....rhymes with HURL! : )

From The Quiet Pirate on Tue, Nov 09, 2010 at 18:25:55 from 71.77.158.102

Stare strong, comrade!

Nice running miles and pace. You might just try moving to a new town if there's too many names to remember in the one you're in now.

From Burt on Tue, Nov 09, 2010 at 18:42:38 from 206.19.214.144

Kim - I hope I didn't make you hurl.

QP - I should move to where you live. Everyone's named Bucky.

Wow, so territorial!

From SlowJoe on Wed, Nov 10, 2010 at 00:52:16 from 195.39.154.10

What I do is wear a switchblade on a thick gold chain when I run. It adds a degree of difficulty to your runs, yes, but it'll keep punks from frontin yo hood.

From ChrisM on Wed, Nov 10, 2010 at 04:29:51 from 130.88.123.4

Good idea on the marathon pace! That should definitely work.

From runningafterbabies on Wed, Nov 10, 2010 at 10:22:14 from 24.10.211.135

Nice pace. Does the stare down actually work?

From Burt on Wed, Nov 10, 2010 at 10:45:35 from 206.19.214.144

Nicole - I'm like a beachmaster. Did I just compare myself to a hippo?

Joe - do you put bodyglide on the chain to prevent chaffing?

Chris - I can't believe I haven't thought of it sooner.

Melody - Legend has it that I stared a guy down so hard one time that he peed himself.

From PRE on Wed, Nov 10, 2010 at 13:27:30 from 204.60.75.185

I talked to my BIL this morning at Dads and Donuts. The guy's name is Brian Humphreys. Now the next time I see him I can tell him to wait, go home, look up this entry, say his name three times to commit it to memory, hustle back, and say, "Hi Brian. Well, see ya later."
