Today was my first day running in the new neighborhood.  I went from my house out to 32nd, east on Pueblo, south on Val Vista, west on Southern (I have actually ran the Southern Ave. part before), north on Lindsay, east on Broadway, south on 32nd, and back home.  I only saw two other runners.  One was an old lady that looked like she was booking it.  The other was a young guy and he also had a library card.  I figured I'd see more people out running because I see them all the time, but I guess it's mostly in the afternoon.  What else am I supposed to do if I can't watch other runners?  At least I got to run by Giant Hamburger.  It's a pretty good restaurant.  I've eaten there several times.

I went to the bathroom twice before my run.  Speaking of adult diapers (because I know how immature you all are), I read some articles on AZCentral.com that really disturbed me last week.  A guy I went to college with, who graduated the semester after me, was just found guilty of murder.  A couple of years after graduation he 'got a cozy little job with the Mexican mob packaging candy cane.' (Ten points to whoever can name that song without googling it.)  Anyway, it's a long story, but basically they lost their shipment of 'goods' and suspected it was the police informant.  It was.  So they took him, forced him to put on an adult diaper, so that when they tortured him for information, he wouldn't make a mess.  That just turned my stomach to hear.  He was a nice kid, too.

Time - 35:53 (avg. pace 8:14)

Splits - 8:09, 8:15, 8:16, 8:16, 2:58 for 0.36 (8:15 pace)

Okay, I'm posting the links to the story.  Here they are : Link1, Link2, Link3

6.3 miles on the bicycle to and from work.  I took the long way home.

From KP on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 11:21:16 from 65.208.22.26

i don't even know where to begin.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 11:24:17 from 24.8.167.243

Yikes!

From flatlander on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 11:32:01 from 198.207.244.102

Pretty sad how regular people get tangled up in questionable situations. One thing leads to another and all of a sudden they have turned out very different than they planned. Good run though!

From CookieLegs on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 11:35:16 from 155.101.152.105

Ohhh..., not a good ending. It's sad many of the people who end up in these types of situations were "nice" but ended up going down a very bad path.

Nice run this morning, and here's looking to many more good runs in the new neighborhood!!

From rAtTLeTrAp on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 11:35:17 from 72.102.14.98

It's so weird when you hear stuff like that about people you know. I work at a mental hospital and ran into an old highscool buddy staying there who was committed after threatening to kill his family. Thankfully he didn't follow through.

From jun on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 12:06:48 from 66.239.250.209

A couple of things. First, thank you for your description of your run. Very visual. It's like I can picture those urban desert roads in my head.

Second, eeeeeeew! I worked with a guy here at XO that got fired several years back. About 8 months after being fired he got charged with murder. Interestingly enough, the murder took place years before when he was still in high school. So we actually had a murderer working with us. And he worked the graveyard shift and I was the trainer. Scary.

Um....wow. This is some crazy stuff. Drugs seriously ruin people's lives

From Lily on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 14:05:37 from 67.199.181.73

Jun do you work with a guy named Craig Larson at all?

From jun on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 14:08:51 from 66.239.250.209

I do not, no. It doesn't ring a bell anyway. Does he work for XO Communications?

From Burt on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 14:17:50 from 206.19.214.144

I know. Information overload. I posted the links to the story in case anyone wants to read. It still disturbs me.

From Lily on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 15:03:40 from 67.199.181.73

I am not sure. I just know he's a VIOP engineer is all. Oh well. You and Scott must work together.

From Lily on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 15:12:12 from 67.199.181.73

....or VOIP, or however is may be spelled :)

From Burt on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 15:33:12 from 206.19.214.144

Lily - you're spelling has been crazy bad lately. And yet you say you're not pregnant. Bad spelling is a sure sign of pregnancy...lol!

From jun on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 15:39:54 from 66.239.250.209

Yes, Scott and I work for the same company. He is in a different office, but we communicate a lot and we both have great bosses who support our silly habits so we tend to do a lot together before going into work.

I don't know many of the engineers in the company, but this other guy didn't show up on our organizational chart. If he is a contractor he wouldn't though and that is a possibility.

From Lily on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 15:47:08 from 67.199.181.73

Oh dear Burt. Don't start a pregnancy rumor again.... I know I'm still young but I will never be prego again, EVER. :)

Jun yeah, he probably works for someone else. Glad you have a great job with an understanding boss. You need that sometimes. My husband is the head honcho so he doesn't have to ask anyone to leave on his climbing adventures. I remind him all the time how lucky he is.

From Burt on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 16:11:19 from 206.19.214.144

Why are you asking about Craig Larson anyway? Is he a murderer?

From Lily on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 16:23:09 from 67.199.181.73

Burt I think your fixating on murder now

From RAD on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 16:25:41 from 67.172.229.125

yikes - that's about all I can say.

As I was reading this, a new commercial caught my eye...it was for 'limited edition JEAN huggies diapers' - they look like jeans. The tag line: "I poo in blue"

From Burt on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 16:47:30 from 206.19.214.144

I poo in blue. Awesome!

From SlowJoe on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 19:39:55 from 204.133.180.90

I propose Blue Streak for the old lady if you see her again. And, congrats on finally bringing up adult diapers in another post!

From Doone on Tue, Jun 01, 2010 at 23:19:12 from 184.10.154.170

So where are you living now? Is that in Phoenix somewhere? And about your story, some folks really know how to screw up their lives! Wowsers!

From Burt on Wed, Jun 02, 2010 at 00:43:57 from 68.225.214.248

Joe - is Blue Streak a movie with Luke Wilson and Martin Lawrence. Because if it is, I have no idea what you're talking about.

Doone - Mesa is just southeast of Phoenix. And Queen Creek is just southeast of Mesa. So I'm getting closer and closer to you guys. Pool party at Doone's!

From Scott Wesemann on Wed, Jun 02, 2010 at 00:47:51 from 75.162.69.51

Good to see you back on the adult diaper topic Burt. It always seems to bring the bloggers out of the woodwork.

From baldnspicy on Wed, Jun 02, 2010 at 08:57:10 from 72.95.171.93

I guess I get the 10 points. It's Dr. Feelgood by Motley Crue. I'm shocked no one else knew that, but again, this is a good Mormon-themed blog. Yes, I'm Mormon and I have listened to Motley Crue. I love this song, but due to lyrics, it's being purged from our MP3 collection. My daughter is doing a YW value project by cleaning out our MP3 collection and getting rid of songs with questionable lyrics. I'm not sure why talking about drugs that make you feel good is wrong, but as my daughter would say, "Whatever!" Those with teenagers will hear the tone of that phrase. :-)

From ChrisM on Wed, Jun 02, 2010 at 09:04:40 from 130.88.16.210

Crazy capers there!

I guess there will be no more RUN2DAY??

What is 'booking it'?

From KP on Wed, Jun 02, 2010 at 09:09:23 from 65.208.22.26

baldnspicy - you are cracking me up. i would let my daughter clean up her mp3 collection, but not mine. those songs cost money! to get rid of them would be throwing money away! i'm not mormon, so thankfully i can listen to motley crue. as a baptist, we try to stay away from watching the music videos they put out ;)

From baldnspicy on Wed, Jun 02, 2010 at 09:10:03 from 72.95.171.93

Oh, and while I'm thinking about it, we use http://www.songmeanings.net/ to search for the songs and lyrics. They have a place for people to comment on what the song means. Most of the time it's quite helpful, although some poster's mouths need to be washed out with soap.

From Burt on Wed, Jun 02, 2010 at 11:59:54 from 206.19.214.144

Ding ding! 10 points for Wes! And that's why I like you. Here's my justification for listening to it. I don't think the Crue is trying to glamorize the distribution of illegal drugs, but to point out how big of a problem it is, from the cartels to law enforcement to the pushers. And eventually it will all catch up to them much like it did to my friend. A song that I had to purge is that Hallelujah song from Shrek. I had it as sung by Rufus Wainwright. It sounds beautiful, and I used to sing it a lot to put my babies to bed, but then I started to wonder if the lyrics were as bad as I thought they were, or was it just me letting my mind wander. I researched it, and it turns out they are pretty bad.

KP - I love Baptists. What other religion will boycott Disney - DISNEY!! - because of the Little Mermaid? I think I was 16 when that came out, and I remember thinking, "Wow! She has a problem with obedience." LOL!

Chris - Booking it means you read novels while run REAL fast. Or magazines, but usually novels. As for RUN2DAY, I might still see him. I'm going to join the East Valley Runners, which he belongs to.

From Burt on Wed, Jun 02, 2010 at 12:12:11 from 206.19.214.144

Oh, also when I ran Leg 11 of Wasatch Back, and I was plugging along up that dreaded hill, Dr. Feelgood came on my MP3 player, and it really did make me feel good.

From baldnspicy on Wed, Jun 02, 2010 at 13:36:27 from 167.164.3.140

Thanks for the points, Burt. I'm going to have my daughter take that one off the delete list. :-)

From jun on Wed, Jun 02, 2010 at 14:57:53 from 66.239.250.209

I think you guys are focusing on the wrong issue. It shouldn't be whether Motley Crue has questionable lyrics, its why were you listening to Glam Rock in the first place. What's next, you going to post a picture of you in a mullet?

From Burt on Wed, Jun 02, 2010 at 15:12:34 from 206.19.214.144

Um, what's wrong with mullets?

From KP on Wed, Jun 02, 2010 at 15:14:14 from 65.208.22.26

business in the front, party in the back

From James W on Wed, Jun 02, 2010 at 16:35:10 from 12.151.72.1

LOL Burt, your posts really get around! I remember when I used to listen to Guns 'n Roses, Metallica, AC/DC, etc. Sounds like you live closer to me now . . . we'll have to get together once in a while for a run on the weekend.

From Lily on Wed, Jun 02, 2010 at 17:02:01 from 67.199.181.73

Mullets are the ultimate ape drape.

From Burt on Wed, Jun 02, 2010 at 17:12:30 from 206.19.214.144

business in the front, party in the back, ape drape, too funny.

James - indeed we will. And you're running more around my speed nowadays, but I suspect that is so you won't get hurt again, not because you can't. :)

From runningafterbabies on Wed, Jun 23, 2010 at 18:36:25 from 67.177.9.74

Was it Giant Hamburger that sent you to the loo before your run?

Totally creepy about the murdering diaper man.
