AM - 6 miles solo today through WC and the Grove neighborhood and back.  Decent effort.   Read the Morning Shakeout and the piece about running without headphones, music or podcasts and how you should consider being intentional about being in your own head at times on runs.  I think I have been running for over 45 years - and seldom do I go outside on a run with music or an audio book.  On a treadmill, I would say the opposite is true.

I'm trying to reign in my urge to be relentlessly productive all the time. I love podcasts and audiobooks but I'm trying to remind myself that it's ok to do just one thing. For example, I can "just walk the dog". I don't always have to walk the dog and listen to something. When out on the trails it's ok to just listen to the birds. Maybe we're cramming too much into our brains?

Yes, I think we always have to be doing something - even waiting in line or in a doctor's waiting room - we feel the need to be looking at our phones or doing work. This morning on a solo run (without headphones as is normal for me) I decided instead of thinking about the workday ahead of me - I would just instead enjoy the present. Springtime birdsong, deer out in the fields where mist was rising - the sound of my breathing and my shoes hitting the pavement. Lasted about 20 seconds and then I was back to my mind being on a mental todo list. :)
