Ran the NYC marathon with my 22 year old daughter Riley and her boyfriend Artur who traveled here from Italy. Both were first time marathoners and wanted my support and pacing.
Race conditions were fairly good - in the 50's and a little windy. We all started in the second wave and got off to a good pace averaging around 8:45 per mile. Unfortunately around mile 11 Artur started complaining of IT band / knee pain which got worse as we progressed. By mile 16 we were reduced to a walk/run situation where we'd run to each water stop and then walk for minute or so.
We likely had a shot at a sub 4 hour effort - but we were committed to run together and he did not want to drop out.
Really special getting to do a marathon with my daughter - who ironically was my only daughter who did not run cross country or track in high school. She was a competitive swimmer.

| AM - 3 miles easy on the hotel treadmill in rainy cold London. Would not even know I ran a marathon a few days ago - I suppose due to such an easy pace we ran on Sunday.

| AM - 3.5 miles or so on a chilly morning - Ran around Hyde Park. I always enjoy running by folks riding their horses - with their proper riding gear and all. So English.

| AM - with 23 friends and family staying at my house for Thanksgiving - we got 10 of them to run together for the ATC Thanksgiving Day 5k in Atlanta this morning. Great weather and a nice time having all of my daughters running together with me and our house guests. Nice event.

Got blood test results from my physical last week. Insanely high numbers from an endurance/fitness perspective - for which I have very little explanation except that I have not been training too hard, which may result in better labs:
RBC - 5.45 M/uL
HGB - 16.4 g/DL
Hematocrit - 48.9%
Ferritin - 131
I have not been training that much since running/slow pacing Riley and her boyfriend the NYC marathon - and my training for that race was very modest - rarely exceeding 50 mpw and no long runs greater than 16 miles.
So - I am currently uninjured and apparently quite healthy from a labs perspective. I suppose it is time to begin some base training for a late spring marathon. Daughter #3 will be in Rome for a study abroad and Daughter #2 wants to run the Roma marathon in April. I have also got an entry to Grandma's marathon in June.

| PM - 7 miles on the treadmill at lunchtime (storms in the area) - followed by 2000 meters of indoor rowing. My phone had a tornado warning alert go off just as I was leaving the gym - so probably a good idea that I stayed indoors. Never saw the tornado - though my entire office building had to empty into stairwells as a precaution.
