I was planning on not doing this very hard because I was exhausted. Because I had been at EFY all week and I was getting up extra early to run I was getting about an average of 4 and a half hours of sleep a night. I warmed up with Steve, and my dad and then a little bit more with carol. I was really happy with my race today. I ended up running 1:28:30 which is 6:45 pace. That's 7 seconds per mile faster than Deseret News 10k. I didn't know what I could do so I tried to be conservative at the start. I was still able to hold a conversation till about 8 miles into the race. At the end my legs were very beat up, so I don't know if I would have been able to start faster and hold it. The pace felt pretty easy and my legs didn't start to fatigue till mile 9 and a half or so. While I was running there was a group of guys talking about there garmins. One guys garmin wasn't working because he said we were running 6:10 pace, but another guy said his said 6:30 pace. I don't know if either of them were right because it felt pretty easy, closer to 7 minute pace. I threw up at mile 8 which wasn't very pleasant especially since the next water station was a few miles away. Starting at about mile 9 I got bored and needed a new way to push myself. I noticed there were dots on the trail, and that each set of dots was 100 meters apart, so I started doing speed changes. Then at 11 and a half I passed a guy but then he came up to me and told me to stay with him which really helped me. After the race I cooled down with Carol. Then me and my dad went to the massage school and got massages. I will be sore tomorrow. I think I probably should have worn a heavier racing flat because my feet are very sore. |
