4 mile: 28:10 (2005)

10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

YIKES old runningblog buddies.  Yikes.  I can't believe I have not run a step in a week!

I got really sick last Thursday night/Friday morning.  I thought it was a virus, or food poisoning. So, I took Friday off, and then Saturday, and then .... you see the pattern here.  I still don't know exactly what it was, but my doctors think it was a severe GI inflammation/reaction caused by Celebrex (I have a few bad blood markers right now - so I am being monitored).  I was not really able to eat, and was so tired and dizzy, for 5 days.  I am finally eating again, and am regaining some strength.  This morning I actually thought, "maybe, just maybe, a little jog??" - I ended deciding to wait until was a little stronger.  I really felt so bad this weekend, I don't want to go back there.  I lost 7 pounds in about 3 days!

So,  I was on Celebrex as part of my downward spiral into middle age.  I have autoimmune arthritis, my body is attacking my own joints.  The Celebrex is supposed to help with pain, and I am now on Methotrexate (a disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs)) which should slow the degeneration of my joints.  Degeneration!  crud!   They have changed my anti-inflammatory to a GI safe one, which I probably won't take for a little while, and I only need to take it as needed anyway - I will try to avoid it when possible.

Anyway -- no modification to my running routine yet, but it will likely happen sometime in the future, it is a degerative (and chronic - sounds bad, huh? chronic!) disease, with no cure.  BUT -- on the bright side, I am healthy, I can take drugs to slow the process down, AND, I think I am going to check into some diets that also have an impact on lowering inflammation ... so I can at least have some control over this.

So, that's what life is like in the 5th decade. Hmmm ... It is sort of funny, but a friend told me one time, "the 50's suck, all you have to do is survive them, the 60's are much better :)" -- oh boy, can't wait :)

Miss you bloggers, hope the pavement and trails are being kind to you.  I will be joining you again very soon!!

Little jog. Soooo good to be out running again.  Very grateful.  My blood tests showed an acute inflammation (CRP was very high).  So, I am trying not too overdo it, but I really *need* my running fix!

Have a great Friday bloggers!!
