10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

AM: (9 miles, 1:22:45).  Probably a little longer than 9 ... 42:05 out 39:20 back on the Wing Mountain trail (FRS 222).

PM: easy 4.

I saw Chad and Ryan Hall this morning on their run.  It was weird because they were running a road (180 -- Fort Valley Road - the road from Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon) -- I can understand why Ryan would want to avoid trails right now (no reason to take a chance on a sprained ankle or a fall) - but with so many good dirt roads, and even paved roads with no traffic, why run on a fairly busy road (where people are cooking along at 55 mph).  They did have a car driving behind them -- sort of on the shoulder such that it is.  Anyway -- he looked like he was booking it!!!

We saw Abdi the other night coming out of Karma ("the" sushi place up here) and he is on his way to London this weekend -- the Olympics are SOOOO close!! Can't wait!  Go USA!!!

Very cool - its hard to believe how close the Olympics are - almost time for the marathoners (at least the ladies) to start tapering it down.

Interesting that he was out running on the highway. I wonder how many Grand Canyon tourists saw him running and said "that looks like the guy on my Vizio TV box!"

ha ha ha ... it was also funny because it was 11AM, I told Dean, "see, I am not the only one who works before they run ;-)". Dean said it was either his second run or he was finishing up from his run that he started at 8AM. Today is the Thursday Bagel Run, so the latter of Dean's comments could have been true!!

I am very excited for the Olympics, we are sending a strong team this year!! With a few middle and long distance track folks that have a real chance at medaling!!

Hey, Bonnie - going to miss the opening ceremony as I have an overnight 12 hour race :( bummer! Do you know anything about the streaming for events and if indeed most of the track/running/walking events will be televised online? I know you are a track nut so I figured I'd ask.

Also, have you had the pleasure of reading Lopez Lomong's book? I ran against him in h.s. once and will never forget him - I ordered a copy and UPS supposed to be coming today!

From Bonnie on Thu, Jul 19, 2012 at 16:33:37 from 184.63.70.104

Hi Benn, the full listing (for all events, not just Track and Field) will be live streamed on NBC.com http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/index.html

The full TV schedule is there as well. IF you want INSTANT feedback on any event -- as well as possible amateur video -- just keep up on LetsRun.com ...

Let the FUN begin!

I will have to check out lets runs.com I think a lot of my google searches bring that up in the top few results. Going to check that out now, my only concern is that you have to have an account to watch them. I don't get tv, except for one station which happens to be NBC - I found that the track and field trials were not covered in depth on our programming. I will have to hope for the best online though!

How is the training going? What is your next big race?

From Bonnie on Thu, Jul 19, 2012 at 17:01:54 from 184.63.70.104

LetsRun will likely have video up, particularly for final middle and long distance races ...

Training is going well. Next race is a 50K for my 50th birthday - not really a race, more of an event ;-).

My next "real" race will be a 1/2 in November/December/January as build-up for a marathon in March ... where I really really really want to break 3:20. But, I will just have to wait and see how the 1/2 (s) work out to see what to expect!

Personal escort on your runs, how would that be???

From Benn Griffin on Fri, Jul 27, 2012 at 07:53:53 from 96.240.195.208

50k for 50th sounds fun!

3:20 you got that no problem! With all the training you do! You are so serious :D.

What events are you most looking forward to for the Olympics? I just finished Lopez Lomong's book so I HAVE to cheer him on :D
