Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

10 miles (1:28:43).  Found a great trail - Montreal is a 8.5/10 on the "Bonnie's running ranking" of cities.  They got extra points for: 1) had a dirt trail that ran parallel to the bike path (off road ways), 2) had a bathroom about 4 miles into it :), and 3) scenic

Weather is also great!

4 miles on the treadmill -- mainly because traffic "in the city" to get to my running route was difficult in the torrential rain -- e.g., scared of cars mixed with rain in the middle of a large city.

bonjour, ms. laFleur (i hope i said that right).

that 8.5 is a pretty good score...but is it lower or higher than DC?

(canadian) cars mixed with (canadian) rain is definitely a scary combination. i'm glad you went with the safe option.

as always, good job getting the miles in while traveling and working hard. no worries about the goose-egg, they are good for you every now and then. :)

that is what I love about you allie, you can read my mind. Comparison to DC is always hard. DC gets a slightly higher score because I can get 22 miles in, with water and bathrooms, all on bike trails -- from just about anywhere in the city. It is super hard to beat that ... so DC gets a 9/10.

Atlanta,Philadelphia, Chicago, Denver, Salt Lake City, and Baltimore also get 8/10 scores, with great bike trails from the center of the city. Other 9/10s are Vancouver, San Diego, San Francisco, and, Tampa Bay.

Do you have others?

The inclusion criteria are population of a million (or more) people, and the scores are from the "usual" places that business travelers would stay.

i knew you would have specific criteria...i almost asked you to email me your "bonnie's running ranking" rubric. :)

i'll give seattle a 9/10, although i've really only run on the outskirts and never started a run from the downtown area, so maybe i am being too generous. but there are bike paths everywhere, plenty of access to water and bathrooms, and lots of big bridges to run across, which is just awesome. james gives seattle a 12.

I agree with Seattle (9/10 - does james understand the concept of objects from a set? I think that the integers 1-10 are in the set P, but I am not sure that 12 is actually in this set?) -- I have had some good runs there! The lack of bathrooms was a little "difficult" for me, but certainly, even from downtown, there were lots of cool places to run (without traffic, a very important criteria, maybe more important than bathrooms??).

Maybe my rankings go to 12.

awww ... I see. Hard to know since the problem was ill-defined.

Thanks for the clarification :)

Ooo, sounds like a nice place to run! Any route with running water gets an automatic 7 in my book! I chased a garbage truck today while inhaling garbage, but ran across a bathroom. 7/10.
