10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

1:26:50 -- easy run up Virginia to 11th and then up 1+ miles up City Creek Canyon.  Legs were pretty tired.  Good news was I did not feel any worse at the end than I did at the beginning!

Happy Friday!

Hi Bonnie,

I happened to see that your office at the U is next to the BST. Do you enjoy running trails? Every April, there's a free trail marathon on the BST above the avenues. It's always a good time and you don't have to run the entire distance. Very low key. If you're interested, go to http://www.users.qwest.net/~cirnielsen/moellmercalendar.html. The more the merrier.

Hi Jim,

I did run quite a bit on the trails this summer, and loved it (first time I had run on "real" trails!). I will keep that trail marathon in mind, it sounds like a lot of fun! I am not sure what races I might be doing in April (depends on how my training goes), but if I can fit in any part of it you can count me in. Thank you!!

Sorry I have no miracle cure. Ibuprofen, rest, massage, stretching and slow jogging all help and will eventually cure the problem. The reason I brought up the level of tendinitis, was due to the fact I ruptured mine by ignoring the stiffness ( acute) and engaging in sprinting activity without proper warm up. This is an injury that seems to respond well to careful attention and maybe even easy, easy running. When I get Achilles issues, ( in my good one- the repaired one does not hurt ever), I do all the standard things plus restrict myself to easy treadmill miles alternating 20 minutes of running with 10 of stretching, repeating until you get your minimum mileage in. Slow and easy always works for me. I would never suggest trying to run through this problem with normal training. The pain is telling you something. of course I have been told that since I ruptured one the other one is at higher risk, so I try to be very careful. This is especially true with older folks like me.
