I just had surgery on my left shoulder (last Thursday), so my training is not regular yet.  I went to physical therapy and they gave me the green light on the indoor stationary bike.  I am thrilled about my progress in such a short time.

30 minutes on the road bike trainer this a.m. It felt good to get some cardio in and sweat a little. I still can't wait to run some miles outside - it just seems more productive. I prefer to exercise outside most always. I am still patiently letting my body heal. I did my PT exercise today...surprisingly they are less painful as you go.

Keep up the PT it is good for you...you will be outside in no time at all.

Welcome to the blog. Looks like you have great potential. What part of Colorado did you grow up in? I was in the Denver area for most of my childhood, and now live in Logan. When were you at USU?

From BlondeRunner on Tue, Oct 27, 2009 at 22:52:31 from 68.166.244.159

Hi Jon. I grew up in Grand Junction. I graduated from USU in 1997. I really enjoyed Logan, but it does get cold up that canyon in the early morning.

Welcome to the blog! I'll enjoy following your training. I grew up in Bountiful and now live in Colorado (Denver area) so I guess we swapped places!

I visited with my doctor today and had the stitches removed. We also reviewed the pictures of my shoulder arthroscopy and they showed me the osteoarthritis.  To see pictures visit the post and click on the link to read my update and view the pictures.  It's not everyday you get to look at the inside of your living body – cool!

Well, I have been taking it easy the last few days because my shoulder seems to be really achy. One thing is for sure, it is better to take it easy then to push too hard right now.  Still no jarring, so that means no running.  I am trying to be patient, but I miss it.

That is good to take a break. I need to get out of the after SGM break mode though. Time to get serious

From Burt on Fri, Oct 30, 2009 at 01:31:36 from 98.167.151.26

Take it easy. You're such an inspiration.

From jtshad on Fri, Oct 30, 2009 at 15:18:07 from 204.134.132.225

I had shoulder surgery a few years back and was anxious for the recovery as well. Patience and persistence in the physical therapy is the keep to a faster and healthier recovery. Better to take a bit longer and do it right than to rush it and end up worse than before or having to correct it again.

BTW, welcome to the blog!

Burt - thanks for the kind words. Jeff - thanks for the welcome and encouragement - it's hard to take it slow.

I walked this morning with a friend. We went a little over 4 miles and it felt good to get out and move. I wore my sling to prevent using my arm too much - which proved to be helpful and I was much more relaxed. I really miss running and it seems very cold to just walk, not to mention how much longer it takes. In due time I guess...still being patient.

I wrote a new blog post for those that might want to read it.  Here's the link:

I'm am super excited for the running group tomorrow. I look forward to being around other runners.

Way to get out there...it is so much colder when you are walking!

From Maurine/Tarzan on Sat, Oct 31, 2009 at 11:43:06 from 97.117.56.31

You can get a good workout walking - it just takes more. I walked my first five marathons (95% or more)

From allie on Sat, Oct 31, 2009 at 12:54:33 from 67.177.43.41

glad you were able to get out and walk for a bit. i agree with maurine, it can still be a good workout. the patience will pay off. best wishes to you for a speedy recovery.

Okay, so I am doing all the exercises I have been prescribed...I am getting more out of shape everyday, but healing well...ugh!  The only good thing about this is that I will appreciate being whole one day again (or at least better).

Been cycling in the morning on my roadbike/trainer.  The weather has been perfect to go on a run, but I can't...ugh!  Anyone listening - please run a fast mile or two for me...

You are active enough that you should not lose that much fitness. You will be back stronger than ever.

Alright, I'm sorta feeling left out as everyone can run, and I can't;  so, I decided to try a two-hundred sit-up challenge and wanted to invite any of my fellow fastrunningblog runners to try it with me.  I have also invited the local South Davis Road Runners club to do it to.  It should be fun.  Here's a link to more information:
http://blonderunner.com/2009/11/two-hundred-sit-ups/

Okay, I did my initial test and was able to do 156 solid crunches...I'm starting on week 5, column 3 so I can have two weeks of a challenge.  Anyone else want to try it with me?

I keep forgetting to check your blog! You will be back running in no time at all...I think I will try the sit up challenge but I don't want to start in the middle of the week so I will wait until Monday. (I still need to do the push up challenge too)

From Burt on Fri, Nov 06, 2009 at 14:01:50 from 68.76.197.194

I'll try it.

I must admit, it is hard for me to log - I just don't like to write negative stuff.  But, I do miss running so bad.  I am trying to patiently heal but can't help to feel like I am getting out of shape.  It is hard to read about others having such great runs and races and not feel like I want to be there doing it too...so I have stayed away.  I do look forward to seeing all of the runners on Saturday, but it's hard to just walk while watching everyone run off...I guess I will continue to be patient and let me body heal.  I am happy that others can run, I just miss it.

I have been doing my exercises and cycling indoors, so I'm not completely out-of-shape.  My friend Barbara took 6th at World's (triathlon) today...I could have been there (and should have)...I could have been top 10.  Ouch!

You're doing the right thing by taking time to heal. Injuries are not fun. Congrats to your friend Barbara. Don't worry, you'll get there again. Just continue to be patient.

From Burt on Tue, Nov 17, 2009 at 15:27:17 from 12.231.112.98

You're not alone in not wanting to blog when your injured. I think every blogger feels that way. But if you're like me, you keep doing it and just post silliness that keeps people wanting to come back for more. I went almost all of last December before people realized I wasn't running. LOL.

I have been doing my arm exercised and my PT added some resistance on Monday - so I am using bands.  I am so thrilled, as now I feel like I am getting a workout.  I feel my arm getting stronger.  15 days until I can run again.  I can't wait.

Keep up the good work with the shoulder. The PT hurts but it helps (I know from when I went under the knife a few years back).
