Well this is my first entry in my blog. I ran today in about 40 degree weather. Felt very nice to just have a pair of cotton shorts on. I've been running many many years. Always kept up at least 15 miles a week. 3 times a week. Then years ago i got hurt (shins splints)  and started going to the gym instead. Which thats' what i have been doing for years now. I would like to train for a marathon Boston was always my dream. I get shivers down my spine when i think of it. But i know if i am to do this i will have to stay out of the gym pretty much cause for some reason they both just don't go good together for me.

 

I'm retired and work parttime but haven't been called into work for sometime which pis**es me off. So I'm thinking hell with them all i will run 8-12 miles a day.. It seems i can only run and enjoy it in the morning hours before i eat anything. I used to be an afternoon runner and evening to but at my age now mornings seem best.

 

Today my run felt fast and smooth. I didn't time it and haven't timed any of my runs for years. But i know it was a sub 8 min I'm sure. I'll have to buy a watch i guess..

Well ok .. if anyone wants to give me a shout go ahead..

Welcome to the blog. Looks like you have an outstanding goal set for yourself and a plan to achieve it. Once you get in the habit of tracking your times and blogging every day I am sure you will be able to see yourself improve towards the BQT quickly.

Thanks for the comments. I see everyone here is from Utah.. Well hope i can keep it up .. what happens to me usually is i run hard for 2 or 3 days then i hit a sleepless night. Not sure what happens to me but takes me a while to get back into sleeping mode.. usually if affects me for 2 days or so. Which then i stop running. Always had this problem.. even when i was younger i would wake up at night in the sweats.

Welcome to the blog! Are you able to run 5 miles 6 days a week? If not, how about 4? Try running 6 days a week as many miles as you can so that the next day you feel up to repeating it.

Hi Sasha. I use to run 5-6 miles a day then usually a 8-12 mile run on the weekend. But yes i do have to try and add the extra days instead of just mileage i think. I have to try for this evening maybe 4 miles that would be fast and easy..

Today was a day off. I slept good last night but was feeling a little restless at 11pm and was thinking i would have a hard time getting to sleep. But didn't happen.

Went to the gym today to.. just did 2 sets of everything. lol.

40 degrees and cloudy. Roads were clear.. I went out and ran around 4 pm wasn't bad. I think if i don't eat big meals i can do afternoon runs. Still not timing myself. People always said i run to fast all the time which I'm going to try and slow down some. That way maybe i will not burn myself out to soon. it seemed i always was a mid pack runner.. I would look up in front and see a whole bunch then look to the rear and see the same. So i guess thats not to bad.. I know i should do more races even if there short. It seems to build me up faster.

Went out around 10am when the rain let up. Was 50 degrees very nice to wear shorts and long sleeve shirt.

 

The run seemed slow.. my legs i think had lastic acid build up. Not use to putting days together. But have to try and keep it up.

Took the day off. Went to the gym instead and did two sets of everything. I guess not getting enough sleep at my age affects ya. Anyway don't know if i could really make a marathon a goal.. seems to be to much work and stress for me. Everyone's different. 

 

Oh by the way that picture of me was taken probably 10 years ago.. i'm about 10lbs heavier today..

Not bad today a little slow going in fist half last half was better. Sunny and cold about 20 degrees with a 20 mph wind. Getting a little tired of the same route.. But i think coming here and recording my mileage helps.. i wasn't even going to go out today.. glad i did.. i have a flat 8 mile course i will have to start doing.. and another 5 miler but with steep hills. one hill is over a mile high.. and coming back down into town is tricky to.. got to be careful ..

For some reason after running hard i wake up very early in the morning.. guess i'll try going to bed a little earlier to off set it.. if it starts to really bother me..

Got my 8 miler in. Wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. Mind over matter i think. The weather was cloudy with about 38 degrees. We are waiting for snow and rain so i was glad to get this in before it happened. Once i start feeling comfortable with 6 training days a week I'll start timing my runs. Right now it just does not make a big difference to me.. Who knows maybe Boston for 2009..

Got my 5 miles in today. Sunny but cold and windy. Got to start putting days together. Haven't done that in a long time. Sometimes i feel i just need to be in the gym for a while. I think i have arthitus in my left forearm and lifting gets rid of it. I'll have to figure something out. To get those runs in on the same day.

Well at least I'm getting regular at it.. didn't sleep to well last night. Might have something to do with the energy drink i had around 5pm..lol oh well.. I forced myself out there today.. ordered new shoes also.

Freezing -  freezing rain all morning leading up to the race. I eat a little bit to much before leaving my house. Usually I don't like eating anything if i can manage that. The race starts out going up a slight hill but narrow one way street. And i made the mistake of getting way in the back. I didn't reach the 1 mile mark till 8.45 but then the crowd started to open up. I was a little shocked at the first mile time. I guess if you want to get good at this forget the weight lifting so much and get the running in.. no matter what..

Did 5 miles this morning. Weather is starting to warm up.. if mid 30's seems warm. Anyway it went pretty good i guess because i didn't really push myself in that race yesterday. Planning on another 5k next week.

Got a new pair of shoes. Asics Nimbus 9's.. my second pair don't feel as good as my last pair.. i think the laces are a little shorter. Bought 6 pair of Throlo socks.. but i think they maybe to thick.. oh well i'm sure they will come in handy some day especially for my next pair of shoes..

 

Maybe these shoes need a little more breaking in period.

Sunny very cold and windy. I was hoping to break the 25 min but unable to. I went looking for some old races i was in years ago and found one 5k. Time was 26:30 that was 5 years ago. So i guess i'm not in to bad a shape.

The harder 5 miles today. Very hilly. Actually 4 miles of it is probably all going up hill to some degree. Around the 3 mile point gets very steep.. levels off on two occasions for about 15 yards giving me a break. But then coming back into town is very steep also. You have to lean way backward for a good 60 yrds. as your coming down. So that actually slows you down to.. i know a lot of beginner runners getting hurt going down hills.

Well i got pretty lax in my running last week. I ran a hard 5 on Monday last week then they called me into work.. for 3-8pm.. I work parttime at this Highschool doing custodial work. Walking those floors kills me. Especially after running the same day.

Now i got another parttime job working at the university i use to work for. Out on the poultry farm. Something about farm work i like. But it's definitely not the 5am hours.. i just ordered one of those sun alarm clocks. I can't hear a regular alarm clock if i'm laying on my left side.. to much gun fire in my early years i guess messed me up there.

I guess i'm not really pushing it to much..
