Personal:

I am 27.  Have done 33 marathons and ultras. Really trying to get in shape to get back to running the miles I want to. I love to read and worked for four years in a bookstore. I like to keep track of the books I read. Currently I work as a 6th & 7th grade history teacher at the only charter school in Berkshire County, as well as serve as the coach for the cross country team! Been experimenting as a pescatarian (eating only fish) since August 10, 2011.

Just earned my Master's Degree in Adolescent Education for Social Studies. I have the most wonderful WIFE in the entire world.. EMMA! October 16, 2010

Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must. Just never give up! - Dean Karnazes -

We are all teachers and we are all students in this sport. - Dean Karnazes -

The simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward at an accelerated rate can be one of life's greatest - and simplest - pleasures. ~Dean Karnazes

"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." - MK Gandhi

"The marathon mercilessly rips off the outer layers of our defenses and leaves the raw human, vulnerable and naked. It is here you get an honest glimpse into the soul of an individual. Every insecurity and character flaw is open and on display for all the world to see. No communication is ever more real, no expression ever more honest. There is nothing left to hide behind. The marathon is the great equalizer. Ever movement, every word spoken and unspoken, is radiant truth. The veil has been obliterated. These are the profound moments of human interaction that I live for." - Dean Karnazes

11:00 AM - Ran on the treadmill. First run post-race last weekend. Everything is in working order pretty much. Did a mile warmup and right into 4 x 400m with 400m recovery. All 4 "on" were done at 1:30 (6 min pace). I have to work on speed in the next month. I have a 1 mile race in Pittsfield on North Street next month.

7:30 PM - Went down to the bike trail and ran with Emmy tonight. Went out somewhat slow in 9:50 first mile, but steadily increased pace. The last 1.5 miles were sub 7:40 pace. Flying! That girl sure can run. It was all I could do to hold on and finish :08 seconds behind her! Phew! Afterwards one of Emmy's friends we saw rollerblading came over to say hi and we chatted with her for a while. Inside of both feet have 2 x 2" lacerations from the Vibrams where the rubber meets the fabric. Right one was bleeding. Looked pretty sick! :)

3:00 PM - Home sick today. Stomach wasn't feeling right. Didn't really eat much. Generally the thing that helps me when I don't feel well is jogging (albeit slowly) to get all the bad gunk out. Well this was a trip for sure. Started sweating profusely after just .3 miles. Before I knew it I had sweat 7 lbs. Pre-run weigh in was 228. Post run was 220.5. Woah. World was spinning when I finished. Had a little pick up at mile 3.

I turned 25 today. It was a really great day. Woke up and went with Emma to Great Barrington to get her hair cut. Then we went out to eat breakfast at a place called "The Neighborhood Diner" right on Main Street. Really great yummy food. Then we zipped up to Dick's Sporting Goods and got lifejackets for kayaking. Found a 50% off rack so that was cool! Went home and suited up and put the kayaks on Cordelia (our RAV4). We went down to Stockbridge Bowl and went kayaking. I was really nervous, but towards the end it was better. Sea legs are slow to come by, and as our kayaks are only 8' long, they were a bit unstable. Afterwards I ran 3.2 miles on the treadmill before we went and caught "The Hangover 2" with our maid of honor and best friend, Missy. Was a really good time. Side note: two lacerations on my inner foot right were the fabric meets the Vibram sole. I might need to invest in Injinji socks, but I really like wearing Vibrams sans socks. What to do?! Highlight presents I received were:

  • Dr. Quinn 42 disc Deluxe Boxed Set
  • MacGuyver Season 3 DVD
  • Box of Books from Borders.com
  • French Press coffee pot
  • Kayak life jacket and other goodies
  • Tickets to see a play in July w/ Emmy
  • Spending the day with the love of my life :D
