Personal:

I am 27.  Have done 33 marathons and ultras. Really trying to get in shape to get back to running the miles I want to. I love to read and worked for four years in a bookstore. I like to keep track of the books I read. Currently I work as a 6th & 7th grade history teacher at the only charter school in Berkshire County, as well as serve as the coach for the cross country team! Been experimenting as a pescatarian (eating only fish) since August 10, 2011. 

 

Just earned my Master's Degree in Adolescent Education for Social Studies. I have the most wonderful WIFE in the entire world.. EMMA! October 16, 2010

8:30 AM - Woke up this morning and the air temp was -5 degrees below zero, with a wind chill substantially lower than that. Decided against running outside, so opted to jog inside on the dreadmill before going to work tonight 3-1115. Yesterday I had orientation for BOCES substituting. I don't think I'm going to activate my account though until after the New Year's trip to California with Emm, Kara and Liana. Read a bunch from Trail Runner magazine and a good article I've read about 10 times on basebuilding. Feeling pretty good. Run on the treadmill was @ 2% incline and 10:00 pace.

Benn, question? Your trail run/races have been faster than a 10 min pace with an incline greater thatn 2%, does your base building program call for slow runs? Just wondered how you are building base this time of year, tough chore. Good luck at being a sub -

well i took 3 weeks or so off of running, so i'm slowly getting back into it. And my left achilles is bugging the crap out of me. I am planning on trying to build up mileage first before I try to go for pace. I have never trained through a winter before. I am going to try to keep runs on the slow side until I bump up my mileage to the 30 - 40 range. idk what to do though. I would really love to try to do Nipmuck Marathon in June '10. I have been itching to try another 'thon .. can't believe it's already been almost THREE years since my last one and i'm only 23 yrs old! Agggh! I don't have a good base program either, Brent.

Only one I found is a 16 wk one by Hal Higdon. I am interested in Lydiard but can't find enough reliable literature out there. Have a Lydiard interpreted website I looked at but the base building area is a bit unsure.

I'm thinking my goal is to increase weekly mileage to 36 mpw with 6 x 6 mile runs, hold it there a bit, and then start increasing a long run? I have a couple 1/2's and a 16 miler race starting in April/May and then I would like to have a go at a trail marathon in June. What do you think?
