I needed a twenty mile hike for a merit badge. I got sick and missed my troop's high adventure 37 miler, and the chances of getting them to do another one were less than zero. My Dad suggested a 20 mile run. Nothing in the requirements said that running was prohibited. We stopped at 7 for a water break, then at 9 for a bathroom break. At 14 we stopped at the house, then took the kids for their runs. My heart rate stayed at 140 for the first 17 or so. I started feeling weird at 13.5. Things gradually progressed for the remaining 6.5 miles. My heart rate climbed to 150 after 18. I was pretty tired afterwards, but the Utah Valley half was much more painful. I'd take 20 easy over racing a half any day. Our time for twenty was 2:39:39, I think, just barely faster than the 8-minute mile 'guy'.
