got a later start than i wanted today but it was pretty cool and not too sunny. i've started liking my road shoes more than my trail runners even on trails because they are lighter and my 2 year long chronic ankle injury seems to be disappearing. i forgot my 2 water bottle holder which was ok cause i did 2 different trail loops that i could go back to the car. the first was at 11.4 miles and i had won some peanut m and m's from the race and had those to snack on as well as energy drink. i went back out and at mile 16.5 and 2 hrs 35 min my gps lost the satellite signal and I kind of have to guess exactly how far i'd gone. I had averaged 9:24 up to that point and i was feeling my legs. I ran till the watch read 3:08 and change and if i had kept that pace would have run just over 20 miles which is what i'll give myself cause i tried to increase the effort slightly to keep pace. felt pretty good and refreshed. must have been all the low mileage weeks till now. no race this next weekend but a 20 mile trail race the week after up in northwest MA. i really want to put on a trail race and have become serious about it. i'll have to inquire with the town and see if it is even possible...

My classes start on the 25th. I might be back for the race on the 24th or I might not. I will definitely be there for the wapack 17.5 miler. Are you gonna be there? Its probably pretty far for you. Its 2 hrs from providence. I don't know if it would make any sense to meet near the intersection of 90 and 290 and carpool from there. It only adds a few minutes for me. I seriously need to buy some new racing flats. I have xc flats that I use for up to 5 milers but I wouldn't use them for long trail races. How is your job going? When did you start? And can you see how its been a little difficult for me to run 70mpw some weeks this summer (between work, family, and a very small social life)?

as of now i don't think i'll be driving the 3hrs to wapack. i'll probably do mt toby though the week before on the 24th.

definitely doing the 20 miler the week before at savoy. I'm planning on a 20x400 workout for the first time since i left providence on tues or wed. not sure how fast i'll go out. don't remember what our speed was. 82-83 sec i think? started work on friday. i think 70mpw is easy if you don't race. long 18-20 mile run on the weekend and then it's easy...

Yeah, that would make it easy. And if I didn't spend almost every weekend with my mom who disapproves of how much I run or if I were not in the lab right now working on a sunday because stem cells can't survive the weekend without maintenance I would be doing a long run on the weekend. As is I have to get a long run in during the week if I want to get one at all.

sorry Haynes, it's funny how certain parents think sports are unhealthy. my dad's parents were like that. the every day thing is one thing i don't miss biology...chemicals can wait. i think you've been training pretty darn well this summer...definitely better than i have. i'm hoping to step it up a notch though in the final 13 weeks...i was looking at sasha's marathon calculator for qualifying for boston with a 3:10. for someone who runs 70mpw they only need 19:55 5k speed. on 5mpw you need to run a 16 something :)
