Decided to do a 5k race today. wasn't planning on racing it since there really was no point as it felt like 98 in the sun and was at least 88 degrees at race time. I was also feeling pretty tired after a long week of 65 miles which is a lot for me at this point. also ran a trail marathon previous weekend and did a 5 mile fast tempo on thurs. More than anything else i was hoping to meet some people i could maybe run with but no one was that friendly. there looked like a bunch of reasonably fast h.s. kids too. probably should have just done a trail run earlier but decided i'd tempo this and see what happens. The course was surprisingly hilly which was annoying. i ran the first out in 8:41 at the turn around. A PR pace!? Didn't feel that fast, was in 4th place and the leaders weren't far away. Ended up running 18:41 and a guy sprinted by me at the end but didn't care to push it. Maybe will run 5 or 6 miles this evening when the sun starts to set so i can maintain my mileage (2-3 mile per week increase till 75 or 80, don't know yet).

ran another 1.8 in the evening, felt horridly pathetic.

When you put your name in the box up there you need to put in bedoukain becsuse matt lenks to someone elses blog. I am assuming it was you though that left the weight lifting comment on my blog because you don't capitalize your I's. But any way I only lift upper body and abs/back. This is because I have a 75 pound daughter that is in a wheelchair and I have to lift her. So if I don't I hurt my back. I do lift more with my leg in the winter, but cut it out with the higher mileage.

Good job on the race-just be careful with all the fast running. Was that you who left the comment? Sorry to bore with the details if it wasn't. I allways assume that it was you when I see matt but I clicked on the name and it goes to another matts blog. And I run with him so know I am confused. Who I am talking to when Matt leaves me a message.

That is a good tempo for a hot and hilly 5k. It sounds like you went out too fast, but its hard not to do that with people in front of you. My mom is here and planning a bunch of stuff to do so I'll be lucky to get 8. And next weekend is fathers day so I will have a hard time running then too. It looks like I will have to double pretty seriously this week.
