Reach the Beach Relay (Sept)
The Other Half marathon Oct 1: 30
Long-Term Running Goals: I would love to do a 50 miler, plus get back to running a marathon in the 3 hr + range, but need to get running healthy again. Personal: Married with two grown boys. One has embraced running and the other is a snowboard fanatic. My profession, I am a computer analyst and geek. After hours, I am a fitness nut who also enjoys reading and hanging out with my family.

| Another horrible night of insomnia. I go to sleep really fast, but wake up and toss and turn most of the night. Got to get to the bottom of this! Met Anna at 6:30 at the trailhead by Hogle Zoo planning to run the trails thru Red Butte and onto Shoreline. We wanted around 7 easy miles. We were worried about the fires, but the trails were fine from the fires but the construction at Red Butte messed up the run. It was sort of a mix up of road & trail, but still fun. We also saw two different races using the same course. Odd. The water stop was by the trail head and both races were using it.

| Decided to try a tempo workout today. Parked at the Capitol and ran easy up 11th to Virginia.. Plan was to tempo back. First .7 was a slight uphill ... 7:22 pace. Yikes. Not tempo. The next mile was slight downhill ...6:43 but it didnt feel good. I felt like I didnt eat enough or something as I was already out of gas! Next .67 was downhill then uphill into a stiff wind. I was cooked. 7:25 pace. I stopped to get a drink at City Creek and continued on a slight downhill to the car. 6:42 pace. An up and down run, literally! I felt really flat thru the workout but oddly invigorated too? |

| Met K at the Capitol and then ran up on the trails to Ensign Peak for a gorgeous pre-work morning run. Pace was recovery from the prior day's tempoish workout, so perfect! With all of the climbing it was definitely a good cardio workout. Saw a deer too! |

| 6 solid hrs of sleep and felt good. No waking up at all. Its so hard to get to bed early. Met Michelle S after work at Liberty Park and ran easy loops. 5 loops (7.5 miles) and felt good. I think we ran about an 8:00 pace which is faster than recovery, but not fast? We chatted the whole time and caught up on life. So much fun to run with a good friend!

| Debated whether to take the day off or do a super easy recovery run and decided to just run slow and easy. Started at the Lagoon trailhead and ran all the trails, past the campgrounds, over the overpass to the trails behind the Justice Center. Followed that till the turn to the Rio Grande paved trail. Very nice and easy. The smells of breakfast cooking at the campgrounds was awesome. I love that smell. |

| Einsteins in SLC up City Creek Canyon, past the power plant, past the 3.5 marker, till GPS said 5.75. Very slow and easy going up. Listened to Podcasts which were motivating. Decided to pick it up going down. Got back to Einsteins and added another loop thru the avenues for 13.1 miles. 1:53. |
