Sept - The Great Race 10k (My Running 101 goal race)
Nov - Dirt Monster 5mi (Gotta do it again no matter what!)

Long-Term Running Goals:

Finish recovering from my injuries and build mileage.  That is all.

Personal:

My name is Wes, I'm married with two wonderful children. The nickname BaldNSpicy came from the fact that I have been balding for a (long) while now and spicy for my love of very spicy foods (Thai and extremely hot wings are my favorites).  If eating doesn't bring me near tears and leave me sweating, it's not worth eating.  :-)

Oh, and I'm also known for my doorags.

Day 1 of my company's Fall Football Challenge where every day we exercise 15+ mins, we score a "touchdown" - 6pts.  Any extra workouts or exercise in the same day earns us the "extra point."

Score 100 points between the 3rd and 30th and we're entered to win 4 Pittsburgh Steelers tickets.  This, along with the looming Dirt Monster race should keep me dedicated.

TOUCHDOWN with EXTRA POINT!  7pts, 93 to go!

Met up with my buddies Ken and Tim for a run over the Dirt Monster course.  I couldn't find my Garmin so we had to rely on Ken's navigation skills.  I think he got us off to a good start but we missed the switch backs somewhere and ended up short of the 5 mi.  Tim wore his Garmin so we knew we averaged around 11:15-11:30 pace, I think.  Pretty easy, but the feet were a little sore afterwards.  I just about tripped twice.  The second time, had a hand on the ground! Lift the feet, lift the feet!

Later in the afternoon, helped someone move.  That deserves an extra point!

TOUCHDOWN - No extra point!  13pts - 87 to go!

I didn't get a run in yesterday so even though it was late, I had just eaten, and was exhausted from terrible sleep last night, I needed my points or I won't make it!  I put my clothes on and told my wife I'd be back in 15 mins, just enough for the touchdown.  I drove up to a flat part of town and started running nice and easy thinking I'd do 2mi max.  I was feeling so good, I had to continue past the 1mi mark and go down the hill to the 1.5mi mark.  AP for this half - 8:48.  Not too bad.

I decided I wanted to negative split on the way back even though it was uphill, then flat with a short down grade at the very end.  At the top of the hill, AP was 9:02, first 1/2 mi split was 4:30.  Hit 4:22 and 4:11 for the next two 1/2mi splits.  Ended with a 13:03 (8:35 AP).  Felt pretty good, a little foot soreness toward the end.  I think it's my pretty worn shoes...

TOUCHDOWN - No extra point!  19pts - 81 to go!

Did the bare minimum for the touchdown today on the treadmill, but I did take about 10 mins to do some strength work.  I was glad to just get down to the gym since work and life are just plain crazy.

Hit the track tonight.  Ran a mile with a walk of about 30 sec between.  Wasn't trying to hit any speed records, just getting the miles in.  Finished each mile with about a 200m pickup.  Wanted my middle mile to be the fastest and I'm pretty happy with the sub 8.

Went out for a nice 9pm run - 42F, drizzly with wind gusts of up to 30mph.  Wind wasn't as much fun, but otherwise, my ideal running weather and in the dark is even better!  Shorts, long sleeve tee, and light cotton gloves. Great run tonight. The first 1/2mi is uphill and I took it easy with the cooler weather and just warming up.  It felt like I was doing about 10:30-10:45 but read an even 5:00 so faster than I had thought or felt.

The rest was somewhat flat with some mild grades.  The last 1/2mi is downhill coming a different way.  I liked the course I took, but I only noticed one maybe 1/4mi where it was blowing with me.  I could tell because my hands started to sweat and I considered taking the gloves off.  Then it started blowing in my face or to my side and I reconsidered.

The last mile or so my (healed) left foot started hurting again.  The downhill pounding at the end didn't help even though I was holding back.  I'll ice it tonight, throw some Tiger Balm on and it should be better tomorrow...I hope!
