In late 2008 I decided I needed to get in better shape and started running again.  I ran my first formal road race ever, a half marathon, in late 2009.

(unofficial) Track 1 Mile - 7:32 (4/24/2010)  6:56 (9/27/2010)

22:39 - Gatorade Steelers 5k on 09/04/2010

10k - 50:43 - Riverside Run on 04/10/2010

Half - 2:02:58 - Just a Short Run on 03/27/2010
1:51:47 - IKEA Montour Trail Half on 09/11/2010

Short-Term Running Goals:

2011 Races:

Sept 25 - The Great Race 10k (59:15)
Nov 5 - Dirt Monster 5mi (52:59)

2012 Races:

June 8 - Riverside 5k  (27:49)
Sept 2 - Gatorade Steelers 5k (route) with Steve!  (27:39)
Sept 30 - The Great Race 10k (route)  (53:48)
Nov 3 - The Dirt Monster 5mi (52:55)

2013 Races:

May - Pittsburgh Marathon (started, but DNF about the half way point)
June - Riverview 5k  - Bummed I missed signing up for this one. It's one of my favorites!
Sept - Gatorade/Steelers 5k. (Signed up!)
Sept - IKEA Montour Trail Half  (prob not, but leaving it on here)
Sept - The Great Race 10k (My Running 101 goal race)
Nov - Dirt Monster 5mi (Gotta do it again no matter what!)

Long-Term Running Goals:

Finish recovering from my injuries and build mileage.  That is all.

Personal:

My name is Wes, I'm married with two wonderful children. The nickname BaldNSpicy came from the fact that I have been balding for a (long) while now and spicy for my love of very spicy foods (Thai and extremely hot wings are my favorites).  If eating doesn't bring me near tears and leave me sweating, it's not worth eating.  :-)

Oh, and I'm also known for my doorags.

Gorgeous, sunny weather today.  I waited until it hit the high of 39F to go out.  Warm enough for shorts and a long sleeve shirt, but not cold enough for light gloves. Not the long run I was hoping for, but long enough to not feel like I completely failed this week. I've got to get my mileage up or I'm going to be in a tough spot in a few weeks. 9:19AP

So I saw your name on the recent entries list and was glad to see you're still on the FRB. I think you were first person to ever comment on my blog.

Good luck increasing that mileage.

Shorts?! I'm still wearing layers and burning a pair of little hotties every time I get out. My hands freeze up in anything under 45 if I don't wear gloves. Looks like we're racing on the same day in May. Hang in there, you can do it!

Hey Wes! How's it going? Looks like you are getting the runs in. How are the feet doing? What is the plan for May, still the marathon? I saw you commented on my blog some time back so I thought I would say hi.

Great to see you posting. (Don't worry, they're saying the same thing to me.)

FG! Thanks for the positive words. I didn't realize I was the first since Burt usually beats everyone to it. :-) I'm still around. Had some setbacks over the last year or two, but I'm still working to get back. Just trying to keep it real and not push myself too much too fast.

Trap - I'm miserable if my hands get cold, and this run was on the verge. I have some black, thin cotton "womens gloves" as my wife calls them, but they're just enough on the days when I'm debating whether or not I need them. Better to keep them tucked in the waistband then suffer through a run without them.

Steve - Yep, I'm hanging in there. Not doing as much as I'd really like to or need to, but making progress. My plan for the marathon is just to get to the start line without injury. Whatever my level of preparation or fitness at that point will be what it is. I'm quite certain I'll be able to run the first half, and hopefully more. I'll decide during the race if I run/walk the rest or take a DNF if I'm feeling at risk of injury. This is the race I'm currently training for, but there are other 5-10ks I'm more interested in seeing how I do in later this year. I didn't really give myself the time to get fully ready for this, so I'm not anticipating a great time. At this point, I figure if I come in somewhere around 5:00-5:15 (12:00 AP) I'd be happy with it. I know I'll easily improve on that over the next year, so injury free is going to be the key. Keep up the great work on your end to! I'm still looking at the fall marathon out your way. :-)

Yeah, I noticed they were giving you the same speech, Flat. In the little browsing time I've spent on others blogs, I did see your posts about being hurt. Just keep pressing on and I hope you're doing better soon!

From Steve on Mon, Mar 25, 2013 at 11:35:14 from 50.29.206.9

Wes, good luck! It seems like you have a good plan. I am hoping to be ready for fall. So far, I have had 2 sets of X-Rays, 1 Bone Density Scan, and now they ordered an MRI for me. YAY!! I am biking a lot but miss the running.
