Finally catching up to my FRB Blog!  First run today and felt pretty stiff but was able to run.  It was good to be back out on my feet.  Otherwise what would I do with my sit time at work?

Welcome back Steve.I've been in the same boat. Really sore left achilles. No running, only cross training.

It's no fun, it's my left as well and it's like a golfball sized bump now on the tendon. I think it's just some separation so I'll be swimming for a while. You better go run Murray days on the 4th, some money and circuit points.

I won't be doing Murray (first time in 8 years I've missed it). It's just not worth it for a little 5k even if it is a circuit race. I've decided to de-emphasize the circuit anyway. I think racing every couple weeks can be detrimental to your long term development and also cause you to make poor training decisions.

I'm gonna stay off the achilles until I can run pain free. I've read too much about how it can take MONTHS to heal if you do anything stupid.

I'd like to know your thinking on the subject.

I think you are right about the circuits. It really messes up my training for the important races.

Seems there are two opinions about the achilles tendon thing. One is to stay off it until it better. That of course works. The other is what I used last year and that is consistent long slow running with stretching and area massage. Of course it was not as bad as this time. Right now I have a lot of swelling. But I did have total recovery.
