8th marathon this year and this one went great.  Another one just under 2:40 which seems to be a rut I'm stuck in.  I started out really slow today on the down hills and everybody quickly gapped me.  There must have been 30 people ahead of me, but I didn't want to be hauling down these hills with the injury this year.  It was too dark to look at the GPS but I noticed at mile three the split was 16:38 which was pretty conservative considering the hills.  Miles four and five were about the same.  This may have cost me a few minutes in total race time since I banked nothing in those miles.

At what felt like mile six I looked at my watch and it was gone.  It fell off somewhere between five and six.  It felt great to just run the rest of the race at whatever felt right.  At mile 20 I started picking it up again since I really felt good and I think about turning down State Street I caught up to Albert and passed him.  Rob then joined me which was just awesome.  I had been alone the whole race.  I'm sure that saved me a minute or two, even though Rob kept telling me that the first woman was gaining on me, and yelling at the spectators ahead that he was pacing the first woman so they should start cheering.  Then Walter joined us with a mile to go and running with those two just gives you a smile!

Now three days until Timp Half and actually pretty excited about putting in some speed.  I've been much to slow this year!

3 days to recover from this race? You are a machine. Nice work out there, winning yet another master's title.

Nice race Steve, you are a machine at cranking out these quality marathon times. Good luck on Saturday, that sounds like a fun half.

Great race Steve. I'm glad I finally figured out how to be with you at the end of a race!

I saw your watch on the ground and stepped on it. Just kidding...didn't see it...maybe a moose picked it up. Another great run. Congratulations!

You're absolutely right James, the Tarahumara Indians don't wear watches, and if they did they would be sun dials which wouldn't have worked yesterday anyway.

Steve, if you're in NY next week IM me. Nice meeting you.

Thanks. Fritz, you are just a class act, not a bad runner either. Teena, where you been? Haven't seen you at the races. Riley, thanks, are you going to be at the next circuit race? I'm going to try and keep you and Ben at least in sigght. Mark, there are two Garmins up there right now! Allie, the best part of the morning was when Marlin, new to the blog, was talking about this really fast woman runner named Allie and James says, yeah, she's my wife! Then we all had a moment of silence in awe of James who's wife not only understood running, but could kick most of our butts.

Steve~

I've been around. Just not at many races. My internship ate up nearly all of my time. What races are next on your schedule?
