Sounds fun Steve. Where are you guys going over spring break?

I'm taking Abby to San Francisco so she can go to Alcatraz. She read a book about it and is now obsessed with going there. Seems like a strange obsession for a 10 year old girl, but whatever.

Steve, I have a question for you since you're the only person on the Blog I could think of that could answer this. I'm going to Rio Brazil in about 1 month and was wondering if it's safe to jog there. I've read some pretty awful stuff about Rio being very un-safe but thought I should ask someone who probably knew.

Whether or not I can jog there may make the difference between me going or not.

Rob M, I think we are going to San Diego. They want someplace warm. I think Alcatraz is a lot of fun. It's a bit strange, but you don't forget it. Doesn't sound like Abby though. You will have to tell her about all the guys who have swam across the channel!

Rob, Rio is a bit scary. I love Brazil and would take any precautions running there that I do in any South American country. Nothing at night, that's for sure. I do a lot of trail running and besides getting lost all the time that is pretty safe. I have some general rules: No eye contact with groups of young men, Nothing at night, no backpacks, bad neighborhoods are those with men loitering around-you get out of those whenever you get in them. Don't look like a tourist target and you are usually fine. Most of the time all I have on is a pair of shorts and my shoes. I look as desperate as any of them! I have actually had the most problems in America's inner cities, Chicago, Baltimore, Philly and Detroit.
