I have raised two running children, one competitive and one not.

I have learned to run in ice and snow and I don't complain.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Work towards a faster marathon by Spring 2012.

Get my 5K down to 21:30.

Place in my division at duathlon and triathlon.

Train for biathlon.

Stayed up way too late going to a concert last night, then headed up the mountain for last day!  I don't count downhill skiing as crosstraining (because it isn't!), but I do count XC, since that the closest thing to running in the snow.  This morning I learned to skate ski (sort of).  Wow, what a workout!  I've agreed to be on a ski to sea team, and my leg is the XC portion this year.  Its a challenging and hilly course, and I know I can do better if I can get this skate ski thing conquered.  Its fun!

After lunch, I switched out gear and just enjoyed fast turns on Spring snow with a gang of friends.  Last day is always such a big party up there!  Its really fun, and especially when the weather cooperates.

Wow, so tired last I didn't even post until this morning.  I don't really like 5:30 track workouts, followed by meetings which I attend in sweaty workout clothes, with no dinner, arriving home at 9pm to eat.

Anyway, yoga yesterday morning.  Great  class.  5:30 wu on track 2 miles.  Then strides. Then many many lunges, crunches, squats, planks, calf raises, etc, etc.  Yoga was an ab workout as well, followed by this intense core stuff.  Ouch!  I thought I'd be sore this morning, but NOT!   Followed the workout with an easy run, which turned into a hilarous run, because we all got "lost" in the arboretum and ran way up before we realized what we'd done.  Fun run anyway.

Some runnin' on the trail before the coaching gig.  Still trying to just keep it easy.  I only did about 1/2 of the strengthening exercises that are on my schedule, so I'll do a bunch tonight.

Yoga this morning, focusing on shoulder stuff, it seemed.  Very satisfying.  Followed with 90 minutes on the bicycle, on my pretty blue bike, on some (relatively) flat roads, in the patchy sunshine.  Fast ride!  I think I averaged about 18, which is somewhat faster than usual.  Helps to ride alone.

Tomorrow is my first official speed work day after my little injury and time off.  Looking forward to it; I have missed these intense workouts like crazy!   Its just going to be some 200m sprints, hills and flats.  Wish me luck!

I guess this afternoon, I'll focus mostly on hip/ab/core strengthening and some hip mobility since we didn't do so much of that in yoga.

Up at 4, track by 5, yoga by 7.  Breakfast in the car in between track and yoga.  Then a couple of meetings, a stop and the nursery and grocery, and finally home.  Its only noonish!  Going to rest up and get some gardening done before the rain.

First speed work in about 4 weeks!  200m hill repeats went great - no pain.  MY BODY FELT SO GOOD RUNNING FAST AGAIN!  I had some technical difficulty with the Garmin, and don't have exact times.  They are supposed to be 48 seconds; I am certain they were a bit slow, more like 51 probably.  But no worries about that; I'd rather not push.  I was supposed to do some flat ones, but just did one, because my leg felt "done".  I did some drills, a cool down jog, and went to yoga.  Even though there was no pain while running - which is a big big improvement - Leg is tight now.  Not sure what this means.

Group training run.  I warmed up with the group, couldn't do strides because of my leg, got discouraged, decided not to run, then ran on my own.  As soon as I got away from all the people, I just sort of fell into an effortless, blissful run, no pace, no time, just running.  Nothing hurt.  I met the group coming back up the hill in the last mile and finished off with them.  I think I need more "free" runs, so I'm going to take two weeks  off of any sort of training, and just run when and how far I feel like.  Maybe eliminating any sort of pressure for a few more weeks will eliminate this hamstring injury once and for all.  I am not willing to run with pain, and I am not willing to medicate the pain so that I can run.  AND, I REALLY WANT TO RUN FAST AGAIN!
