Waterfront 15K (September 2010), 1:14:43. 3rd in AG. Lake Padden Duathlon (July 2010), 1:36:something. 1st in AG . 10K: Smelt Run, La Conner (2010) 47:14. 2nd in AG. I have fun every time I run, and have recently overcome the "I can't go fast anymore" hurdle. I'm having fun going faster and working towards becoming even faster. I have raised two running children, one competitive and one not. I have learned to run in ice and snow and I don't complain. Short-Term Running Goals: Work towards a faster marathon by Spring 2012. Get my 5K down to 21:30. Place in my division at duathlon and triathlon. Train for biathlon.

| Did about an hour of stretching and strengthening early this am, then headed up to Mt. Baker, for a totally spring skiing day with my son, husband, and friends. The snow was insanely fast - I am so grateful to be able to keep up with the 19 year old boys! Question: Why am I skiing so well, with perfectly balanced turns, insane speed, endless tuck, when I can't run? Why am I biking so strong, working the hills, climbing standing for a mile at a time, when I CAN'T RUN! What is up with this? |

Pool running! Very successful pool running. I kept it short, but warmed up, did 6X1 minute intervals at 200m hill effort, with 30 second RI. Then I cooled down. The warm up and cool down seem like harder effort to me, because the flotation belt is not floaty enough for my zero buoyancy body, and I have to "run" harder than easy pace to keep my chin up! NO PAIN ANYWHERE! Even with the harder effort. I am off to yoga, and will do a bike ride later today. Weather is still beautiful, although its supposed to be a bit colder today. PM update: The bike ride turned out longer than I expected, but it was just so nice out!

| Outdoor miles today! 4.61 by myself, then I ran up to the elementary school where I coach some third graders, got them, and went back to the trail for another 1.67 with them. They are hilarious! This is early in their 5K training, and this was the first day we went to the trail to run. I only have four girls, so its pretty easy to keep track of them. I think I could run a whole marathon just yakking with them. Time flies. We threw in some hill sprints near the end. |

| Yoga class this morning, and a run in cold, hard rain. Back to winter today; hopefully that means a bit of snow on the mountain. This coming weekend is closing weekend at Mt. Baker, which means PARTY! For me it means skate skiing too, since I've accepted an offer for a ski to sea relay team, and I'm doing the first leg, skate skiing. I'll have to learn fast! |

Easy miles with hills - 9:45, 9:08, 9:20, 9:41, 9:30, 9:18. Followed with squats, lunges, back extensions, push ups, and crunches on the infield. Got soaking wet and had little bits of fake infield sand all over me. Went to yoga immediately, with protein drink on the way. I somehow promised a friend I would ride 60 miles today; I only feel like I have time and NRG for 30. Its great to be running again! pm update: A fast 63 minutes on the bike. Warm up, 4X4 minute 85% effort intervals, then cool down. I have no idea at all what 85% effort is on my bike, but I did what I thought it meant.
