I have fun every time I run, and have recently overcome the "I can't go fast anymore" hurdle.  I'm having fun going faster and working towards becoming even faster.

I have raised two running children, one competitive and one not.

I have learned to run in ice and snow and I don't complain.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Work towards a faster marathon by Spring 2012.

Get my 5K down to 21:30.

Place in my division at duathlon and triathlon.

Train for biathlon.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Joining Forrest Gump

Raining but warmish, probably mid 40s.  Towards the end of the run the sun actually started to come out.  I ran by the duck pond on the way home and all the little kids are out fishing.  I saw baby ducks and baby geese.

New training plan:  I'll run when I feel like it (when nothing hurts), and I'll run as far as I want to and keep my form perfect.  As soon as the right foot/leg stop behaving and are unable to lift up properly, I'll either stop running and do some drills, or just gently bring myself back into good form while running.  I'll run with no Garmin, pace doesn't matter, but I'll keep the overall effort easy.  So, my mileages will be estimates, based on the time I left my house and the time I returned, plus my knowledge of the trails where I run.

Since this takes incredible concentration, I'll run alone, so that I can stay focused on my body as I run.  I'll do no conscious speed work.  I'll keep up my fitness level by doing tougher bike workouts, which means that I've got to start riding with a faster group and doing intervals.  No problem there; I've got a group I can ride with that rides at 19-20 and can easily join them.

So, today, it was 5.5 miles before form started to suffer.  I didn't have to stop running, just did a few jogging drills to realign everything and continued.  It felt delicious to get wet but not cold and then have the sun come out!

It sounds like a good plan. I hope it works well for you.

You must be an awesome cyclist.

Sounds like a well thought out, healthy approach to running.

Good approach for healing! Do you have any races on the horizon? Oh I see you have Newport--are you still going to run it?

From auntieem on Mon, May 03, 2010 at 00:57:31 from 24.18.77.246

I have eliminated all races from the horizon. I think I'll focus better on healing if I'm not focused on racing. Newport is definitely not happening - don't want to run a marathon until I'm really ready. Not acceptable to just show up and run.
