I have raised two running children, one competitive and one not.

I have learned to run in ice and snow and I don't complain.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Work towards a faster marathon by Spring 2012.

Get my 5K down to 21:30.

Place in my division at duathlon and triathlon.

Train for biathlon.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Joining Forrest Gump

I'm a 52 year old mom of two ex homeschooled teenagers. They both think I'm nuts.

Lovely dinner last night with friends, still feeling the endorphin charge of yesterday's second run!  Today is a day of rest, and my mind is already wandering to activities that I can do.  I need some reminding of "restful" activities.  I will spend some time writing, and working on my new "job".  I am the race director for a local race here; the oldest footrace in Washington state, as a matter of fact, and its time to start with the organizing.  The event is in July.

I've been reading George Sheehan, because I find his perspectives on aging and running particularly meaningful.  Not sayin' I'm aging or anything, but I will someday, so any perspective I gain now will be put to good use, right ; )?

"What I have lost I can afford to lose.  What I have gained is something I cannot do without."  Sheehan on aging and running.

"The mind's first step to self awareness must be through the body".  Don't know if this is true for everyone, but it kind of says it all for me.   No matter how many times I've tried to practice "seated meditation", it never clicks like the insights I gain while running, cycling, backcountry skiing, climbing, or otherwise pushing the physical limits.

Enough rambling!  Off to plant the peas and spinach.

Have a wonderful rest day. I really like the last part you wrote... I have often called my running Moving Meditation, I get all my good ideas and thinking done while I'm running.

Enjoy your rest. I am jealous you are already planting your garden. Here in Utah, we can start mid to end March. We have a HUGE garden - I fill 2 deep freezers full of veggies and I can bottles and bottles of spaghetti sauce, salsa, pears and jam. I LOVE to play in the dirt!

I thought maybe I read it wrong! I can't believeyou get to garden! WE still have snow on the ground. But it was warm today. I hope it is just as warm tomorrow!

You are truly a woman of many interests and talents. I hope enjoyed your day off and your gardening.

Too late for a suggestion... but there's always knitting!! :)

Best wishes on your job organizing the race! I hope we'll hear more about it.
