I've been running for a couple months now, but just now starting to blog.  Hopefully I can make it a habit!  Running is feeling GREAT these days.  The weather is so nice here...mostly.  Craig and I and another couple got into the SG marathon.  So, it's time to start training.  It's going to be tricky, I don't know how we'll manage both training with the children and Craig's schedule, but I'm sure it will work somehow.

Craig had the day off, wa-hoo!  So I got up and did a run.  It was a beautiful cool Spring day.  I did L. out and back course.  Avg. pace 8:00.

We called today's workout "preschool on the go!"  Mary and I met at the track to do some 800's.  It was cold and rainy and as we were packing all our snacks and gear we commented how hard-core we are.  Ha ha.

So the kids didn't want to stay in the stroller.  We took turns running our repeats and playing with the kids.

Nice running to new scenery!  Ran around area of Addy's primary activity.  Pushed Hayden because Craig was sleeping like the dead.  Beautiful homes and lakes down there.  Mary and I had a good brainstorming session too.  She's an awesome running partner!

Pushed Hayden for a run around the area.  My goal was 5 and I almost quit at 4!  My thoughts turned to Daris on the Biggest Loser, giving up on the stair climber challenge, and I decided to finish my last mile.  After that I got a few "Good for you's!" and "Go get em's!"  So it was worth it.  It was HOT, 80's all week.  I should've gone earlier than 10:30.  Hayden is showering in my sweat right now on my lap.  Sorry buddy.  He sure looked cute with his little hat on.  He loves his stroller rides.  I'll post some pics on my other blog.

Mark, Mary, and I did some quick speed work on the track today.  After a warm up we did 4 800's.  We alternated playing with Kate and running our laps.  Playing with Kate was definitely more fun!  Hope is still in SG.  If she'd have been there, the "rest" would have been chasing her around, through, up and down the bleachers.  I miss the little munchkin.

I kept thinking this durning my run because it was such a CRAZY day!  I snuck my run in during the 25 minutes brownies were baking for a luncheon I was going to.  I really wanted to get 3 miles in, but made it to 2.8 and figured my brownies would burn if I did my .2.  Pushed Hope and Hayden.  They quite enjoyed getting out of the house

We had to do our long run in the afternoon heat.  I was dreading it, but it turned out not so bad.  We did two 4-mi. loops and one 3 mile loop around Mary's house.  We stopped at her house for our yummy cold drinks and our sweat rags after each loop.  We did a little extra on the last loop because we missed our turn.  Mark watched the kiddos during our run.  Thanks Mark! Hill Run!

I put our car for sale on craigslist and was wheeling and dealing our multiple offers during this run.  I pushed Hayden so Mark wouldn't have to watch all my kids.

Beautiful run to echo hill.  Did 400m hill X 4. Didn't time or pace the repeats, but I couldn't speak and was panting quite heavily.  It was a nice evening run.

The plan was to run the Heart of the Hills 10K course EARLY before Craig had to go in,  but, as luck would have it he got called in at 9pm last night and spent the night at the hospital.  So, I met Mary at the track at 7.. with all 3 kids. Didn't quite get 6 in.  Addy had to go potty, Hayden wasn't feeling it at the track today, and Hope was her usual wandering self. "Better than nothing" is becoming our new motto:)

Wow, it was tricky to get this run in.  Mary's hubby was at Youth Conf., so she couldn't go.  I planned to get up and do 12 before Craig had to go move somebody in the ward.  Well, when I awoke at 6:30, so did Hope and Hayden.  I felt really bad waking Craig up because he had been up 48 hours straight the day before, so I waited another hour before waking him.  Then I knew I had just one hour, so I thought I'd make it a quicker run.  I did about 7:30's and went 7.5 miles.  When I arrived home Craig wasn't ready to go yet, so I went back out.  Then I got lost.  Yeah, in my quick "10 minute" venture, I got completely turned around.  I was into my music and ran into an unfamiliar neighborhood... Well, as you can see, I made it home.  I was gone 20 minutes instead of 10....got an extra mile in...Craig was too late to move anything.  Sorry, whoops.  I really am.  Ok it's late, I'm going to bed.

Today was our speed work day, but since Mary headed out on her road trip--I put it off until this afternoon while kids were napping.  I did mile repeats around my neighborhood checking on them between miles.  It went ok, but I didn't go quite as far as I would've liked.  I wanted to do just one more, but Hayden needed me.  I did 7:21, 7:12, 6:55.  The other mile was warm up and cool down in between miles.  It was a nice cool day to run in the afternoon!

I finally made it to Utah after being stuck in Kansas City all day.  I flew standby...it was crazy!  Got up Sat morning and did a long run with mom, Dallin, Burke, and Craig.  I just ended up running with mom since Dallin and Burke were speedsters, and Craig broke off to do a trial run up the mountain.  Park City is beautiful!  It was a nice fairly flat paved/gravel trail run.  I hurt all over after it was done though...sore, achy muscles.

We came back from the lake a day early to do our long run.  I ran with 2 girls, Kristy and Camerly (friends/neighbors of Liisa) the first 10.  Then the next 5 I ran with mom, Kay and Liisa, then did the last 5 alone.  It was SO HOT!  I remembered why we used to get up at 3 to do our long runs to beat the heat.  We went from 6:30 and didn't finish til about 10.  Cotton mouth and chills accompanied me the last 6 or 7.  I overloaded on water at the end and got quite nauseous.

We did 8X800's at the track this evening.  It was a family event.  Craig and Mark and all the kids were there.  I asked Mary if there was a track near a playground that we could go to and she said, "we'll just take the playground to the track!"  So, she brought her playhouses with all the tunnels.  We had snacks and Hayden's swing (which he didn't use because he was sleeping the whole time).  We took turns doing the 800's.  I felt good today.

Poor Craig ran some in between watching kids, he sprained both ankles last night moving boxes from our garage to our basement.  He's forging on prepping for the marathon despite all his obstacles.  Love that guy.

We did our long run this morning.  It took some tricky coordinating.  Craig was on call and Mary's husband was out of town.  I hired a babysitter to sleep over last night and Mary brought Kate over this morning.  We divided the run up into 4 legs.

Leg #1:  6 miles from my house to Mary's.  It took nearly the whole 6 to get warmed up!  I was feeling pretty good by the time we got there though.  Took some chomps and some beans--a tasty energy boost!

Leg #2: 4 mile neighborhood loop.  I was energized and felt strong.  It seemed like a lot of uphill. Was that my imagination?

Leg #3: another 4 mile loop from Mary's house. "Franklin loop."  Went by pretty quickly.  We stopped one last time at our nutrition station for the final 6 back to my house.

Leg #4: 6 back to my house. The sun warmed things up quite a bit by this time.  It was pretty muggy too.  At the corner right by my house there was a fatal crash this morning.  As Mary drove to my house, they wouldn't let her through--she had to do a big loop to get to my house another way.  On this last leg, we saw a mangled car that had crashed with a diesel.  So crazy that it was so close to my house... Scary.

All in all, a good run.  Glad it's done!

We went in the AM from my house.  It was supposed to be paced, but it was too dark to see where we were going!

This was another "better than nothing" run.  It was supposed to be 21 miles, but I forgot I had missionary  splits at 7:30 and we started our run at 5.  Looped around Mary's.  Pretty scenery down there--Echo rd, Wing Lake, Kirk of the Hills.  I'm starting to get a little fond of this place.  It really is beautiful, especially this time of year.  As we ran by the cider mill, we decided that when it opens next week, we will stop there for donuts and cider instead of taking gu.  Yummy!

Mary and I did a 50 min. paced run at 5AM.  My watch died 1/2 way through, so we tried to beat the 25 min. it took to get out on our out-and-back course.  We did it by 1 minute, plus it was uphill on the way home! I think we did just about an 8 min. pace, maybe slightly faster.

"800's."  If you can call them that.  Tried doing them pushing the kids around my neighborhood.  1st one was 4:23.  Hmmm.  Ran to the park and let them play while I did 3 more. 3:31, 3:31, 3:29.  Rough terrain, but exactly .25 miles around the field.  Addy made up obstacle courses for me to do in between the repeats.  Quite challenging.  Really!  Mom called after being on a trip abroad for a week, so walked it home while we caught up. The run was another "better than nothing" workout:)

Visiting Heather in NY!  Ran on her complex TM 4 miles at 11pm.  Wanted to farther but felt like I should go check on my kids.  Just as I got up to the room, I heard Hope fall off the bed.  I got to in just enough time that she didn't wake up all the other sleepers.  Mothers intuition, or somethin!:)  The run felt great, got a blazing high which has been lacking for awhile.

Pushed Hope and Lincoln on the "Rail Trail," a beautiful trail here in NY.  Hope lasted 2 miles before she started pounding on Lincoln.  We turned back and hit the park on the way home.  I feel lucky to get these 2 runs in!  If possible, I'll try an early morning long run at Heather's parents cottage where we're staying tonight.  We'll see how things go.

So I missed 3 days of running, including a long run.  We had a great vacation though!

Today was Addy's 1st day of school.  After dropping her off, I headed to the gym.  My goal was to go as far as I could until Kids Corner closed.

I started off at an 8:20 pace thinking I'd get 9, maybe 10 miles in.  As I got warmed up I felt I could run a bit faster.  I gradually increased my pace and did the last 3 at a 6:35 pace.  It felt ok, I didn't want to go any faster though.  Good music made up for the crappy stuff on TV.  I read an article about a lady who memorized "The Living Christ" while running.  I took a copy of it, but could not read it.  The text was too small and I seemed to really be bouncing as I ran.  Maybe I'll try it again with a bigger copy.  I thought it was a great idea though!

Hey my friend!!! How are you???????? I miss you! Nice miles today :) That's so awesome you got that many in all at the gym.

How funny, I just barely finished memorizing "the Living christ" yesterday on my run! I started it FOREVER ago when I was in Young Women's, so it took me awhile, but I just put little sections on like a 3x5 size paper and memorized parts at a time.

Can't wait to see you soon! Love ya!

Mile repeats at Mary's.  Beautiful crisp Fall day!  Didn't feel like doing speed work, but glad now it's over.  Ipod played only the harmony and bass, it was weird,  felt  had to fill in the melody out loud--so I did (sometimes)!

6:46, 6:51, 6:30, 6:49, 6:29

Ran slow 10-20 seconds between intervals.

Up at 5 and started run from my house.  Did a 2 mi out and back while waiting for M&M.  Then we ran to their house for a gu break.  We did a 4 mile loop and stopped at the cider mill for a yummy doughnut and some cider.  Then we did another loop from M&M's, then back to my house. Did about a 9:40 pace. The last couple were a bit faster,  anxious to be done!'

The rest of the day was nonstop, Addy's soccer game, then to Erwin Orchards for her B-day party, then babysitting in the evening.  The power was out that evening and night as well...that was an adventure!

Warmed up 2 miles to the cider mill.  Mary did her VT there.  We also did preschool on the go.  It was an effective use of time!  Then we took turns doing Franklin hill.

6X400M Hill repeats 2:08, 1:55, 1:57, 1:48, 1:53, 1:22 (the last one was running down the hill:)

Then we ran back 2 more miles.

10X800's!!!  Glad to get that done:)

I did it on the treadmill which is kind of cheaterpants because you can set your pace and your legs are forced to run it.  Oh well.  It felt like a great workout.  I did have to make one trip to Kids Corner to change a blowout.  Otherwise, I just ran about half a lap between the 800's.

Today's race was cleansing and awakening.  Cleansing for two reasons: the downpour of rain, the speed (and pain) achieved only at races.  Awakening because the marathon is in 2 weeks!  I have not ran a race since last year's marathon.  I forgot how HARD the marathon truly is.  Although only a 15K, all the feelings of the marathon came flooding in.  Am I prepared?

On the bright side, Kensington is hands down the most beautiful place I have ever ran.  Craig can second that.  With the Fall colors beginning to appear on the trees, the lake dotted with swans and fishermen, the rain misting the ground and lake, and runners in pain;  I soaked in the beauty.  Why have I not been doing training runs there?  It is about a 40 minute drive for us, but worth it.  I will be doing this race next year.

So I started out with my first mile at 6:25.  A bit gung-ho.  I paid for that with some nausea the next couple of miles.  By mile 3 I was in a groove.  I tried running to the cadence of each song that came up on the ipod.  That didn't prove to be very helpful, as my mix was certainly a mix.  I like the theory of running to a cadence--but I don't think I could run to a metronome or a song with the same beat the whole race.  So, I think I'll just let my body do what it wants--with a little guidance from my mind:)  The next 8 and a half miles were pretty consistent, about 7:15's.  That's what I want for the marathon, but it was hard I tell you!  It was not fun watching 7 or 8 ladies pass me either.  I picked it up a little the last mile and finished feeling pooped, but happy.  I ran back to meet Craig.  He did awesome for very minimal training.  He finished in about 1:20, feeling uppity.

Congrats on your race AUBREE!!! That sounds like a beautiful course, that makes the pain of racing a little better right? Oh that pain, , , I always wonder why I sign up for races and actually pay someone money to feel like that! But the endorphins and rush at the end and when it's all over are so worth it! You are so incredibly talented, you've always inspired me with your running (I'm thinking back to 800 repeats on the track trying to keep up with you and never being able too!) . .

I saw Kaylee sp? and Brayden this morning at the soccer games, , , , can't wait to see YOU soon!!! Hope you guys are doing good. . .. wish we were sippin coladas on the North Shore!!!!! Love ya

We ran from the library after storytime.  Loved running through beautiful Hogwarts (Cranbrook) in the Fall and seeing all the kids in uniform. Pushing stroller might not be the best for my body mechanics.  My back aches!  Maybe I just need to change how I push.  Beautiful day!  Fantastic run!
