I love this race!  I didn't do a lot of mental preparation but decided the morning of the race that I'd shoot for a PR...specifically 1:30.  I did a 1:32 at Provo River, then again at Virgin to Hurricaine, so I definitely wanted to beat that time.

I started out much quicker than I usually do.  I typically take it fairly easy the first few miles of a long race to warm up.  But Amber, Kari, and I ran just over a mile beforehand which I think really helped.  I wanted to catch up to Amber and run with her if I could, so I caught her at mile 2, just before the steep downhill, but I just couldn't hang.  I could see her up ahead of me most of the race though...so I knew I must be improving! Thanks Amber, you helped me keep a good pace.

I kept all my miles below 6:50 which shocked the heck out of me.  Halfway through I thought, "I don't think I can maintain this pace." But I did, and was very happy with my finishing time.  It was a beautiful day in a beautiful place.  It was fun to have the whole fam there too!  All of my siblings and my parents ran the race.  Everyone did awesome.  The girls in the family all medaled!  Sweet!
