AM-Easy 8 mile brunch run this morning.  Tough to do the workout by heart rate monitor with the heat and all so just kept it at a nice jog around 8-9 min pace.  Back in my mid 30s when I ran sub 2:30 for a marathon I would never run slower than 7/min/mile pace even in the heat. Not sure if that was a good or bad thing.

Back when I was in my 20s and ran 2:20 for the marathon, I hardly ran faster than 7:00/mile, even in the cool weather :-)

My point is, getting used to the heat is tough and slowing down is OK!

For sure Jake. I've learned quite a lot about training from your blog and performances.

That is why I slow down! I figure if a 2:20 guy can run 8/min miles then I probabably should slow it down a little also:)

at the very least, when it's 90+ degrees outside :-)

That guy should run for president.

Yup.. All though some would disagree and I respect that. What we really need are statesmen and not more special interest politicians. Wishful thinking I suppose..

I know that this is a forum for running. But sometimes conviction rules, and I couldn't help but feel like that the speech was so resonant with our time that I could not at least post it.

Big government plus big social spending = POVERTY for the people. In the end: "Give a man a fish for a day and he eats for a day.. "Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime..

Sounds overly simplistic and cliche I know, but really.. Does it?
