Yowza! Thats like the worst time I have run in a long while! LOL!   I won't make excuses, all I will say is I didn't feel good to start this morning and the course was very honest.  I went out with with Mike Vick  for the first while and kept each other company but I could tell it just wasn't going to be my day. I came in behind him about 2.5 min or so, not sure what his exact time was as he told me it was 1:16 and change.   Backed off for the rest of the race and held 6/min-6:20 pace or so until the end.   I know where I am going wrong with the training I think and have already changed some things, including slowing down my daily runs.  I'm just not getting full recovery from them.

On a more positive note though I was pretty impressed with the size and organization of the event, good logistics, food was good and plentiful and was just overall well organized especially for it's size and being in it's first year too.  It was a nice charity event to help support the recently constructed prehistoric museum.  Another big plus was the 250 clams I got for second place, that definitely helps things right now.   Anyway I'm feeling a bit bummed about the time I got so I'm going to stop writing now, take a nap and then hopefully study for a bit later.  Darkhorse out..

Was the course hilly? $250 ain't bad.

Umm.. Yeah a bit:)

Lots of little steep hills and switchbacks on the first leg, and then lots of switchbacks, some grades on the river trail. I can't make heads or tails of how much it slowed down things though. Hard to say.

I am naturally a rhythm runner anyway so it really was not suited for my style.

Yeah, Mike Vick is normally a sub 1:10 guy, so if he's running 1:16...

Don't worry so much about the time Steve. Maybe a little race rusty? Anyway, you'll get a good training effect from a 1:19 and you'll be better later on for having done it.

Nice race. Have not heard of that one. Is it new?

Thanks Rob, I agree with you I'm not going to think about it much any longer. No race this weekend?

Steve- It is in it's first year. Did you decide to bag the 30k this time? I wanted to go and race the 30k but this was a good way for me to pick up some extra cash for bills. Can you blame me?

From the course map I saw, it looked like a beast of a course because of the switchbacks and grade changes. Being behind Vick by just that much shows you did well.

Thanks Michelle, It definitely was challenging..:)

Steve,

Great job on the race and the extra money always helps.

Great job Buddy! You are an awesome runner and you will have some better races to your standards in the future. But second place you really can't be that. Plus you've been so busy with other things. You have to take that into account.
