Well today was a good switch up. I slept in, a lot. Then made waffle brunch with the girls and watched some of Mary Poppins. After that I had a rare midday Suicide Loop. The weather was perfect for running. Had initially planned 15 for today but with my left foot still misbehaving since Thursday decided to stay backed off until it behaves itself.

Another good night's sleep. Then some family fun including a hike up Big Cottonwood. Left foot still a little achy but not the sharp pains of Thu and Fri. Planned on the Suicide Loop but had some GI issues and stopped the run. Not good to eat too much before your run... Good night none-the-loss.

3.500.000.000.000.000.000.003.50

I was increasingly congested yesterday and ran a slight fever. I was not sure if I was going to make it this morning. The > 6 in of snow the day before and the > 6 in coming down today didn't help that choice. However, I like running in the snow. Especially in the woods! It has to be one of the most relaxing experiences I have ever done. So the deal was I took some Nyquil and had a decent night's sleep. I felt much better and was at least not coughing just a little congested. Then I took some Dayquil after sleeping in and headed to the race start. It was already snowing again and picked up the entire morning until I got home. As Allie had mentioned it was a small race but the 20+ of us showed up and were ready to run. She did a GREAT job organizing and getting everything together. James did a great job marking the course and even though by the time he finished marking the course was already snowed over so we couldn't see his feet it was marked well enough that no wrong turns were made. I met a few new guys, some very new to the area and did a short warm up with one of them, Ken. The race started right on time and one guy took the lead and I tucked in behind him. At about a quarter mile I took the lead and kept it until about this same point in the second loop of the farm. It was so much fun running in near white out conditions (especially since the snow was caking my glasses) and the footing the slippery in a couple spots was not as bad as I expected. The second loop was just me watching Andrew pull away to take the win but considering the night before I didn't think I was going to be at the start I'm happy with how I held it together. It was so much fun and totally worth it. Then spoke with a guy three weeks new to the area Ben. A second cheer to Allie and James. I especially liked the hot cocoa, mug, and hat for my age group win! Yum...

6:15, 6:16, 6:32 (should have toughed it out more there...), and 0:39 to finish it off.

19:43 total, no HR as it slipped down to my stomach after the first mile. It was averaging 188 for that mile though... I think just the cold and not the effort.

Oops. I guess I am still learning my limits. The rest of yesterday went fine. I mostly had to work. But by evening I was wiped out. Then Sunday morning I woke up even more congested so I took a nap. Unfortunately I missed out on sledding with the girls and was too out of it to get any work done but I hope the rest will take care of it.

PM: Had to work this morning. Than an early afternoon run. I think I'm 90% over my cold. Still a little coughing but I haven't had medicine since Wed. I did the far south extension of the suicide loop. Then when I got home the girls were waiting on the porch with their running stuff on so we went for a 1 mi run. I was surprised but my 3 yr old went the whole distance! It was a perfect day for running. Afterwords we went to support our friend at Foothill Fitness. They had an open house today. A bit nervous about the Walmart opening up right behind them...

Happy Thanksgiving!

I was not going into this as a race but more to have some fun. The last time I ran it was in 2009. Saw some familiar faces at the start. Spoke with Kevin a little and added more onto my warm-up with Fritz. The course is uphill then downhill. It was cool but good for racing temperature wise. The start was entertaining as BJ and a friend decided to cross dress for the race... Very funny.

Since I wasn't "racing" I stayed back with the second pack at the start. Picked one guy off going into the canyon, then a second. However, I then got into a game of leapfrog with Mike Evans. He ended up laying the hammer down with about half mile or more to go and I never retook him. At the time I did not know who he was but after finding out realized he was just playing around. It was still a lot of fun to actually end up racing someone. That does not happen that often.

I ran 17 seconds slower than 2009 and 1:07 slower than 2007 so not my fastest on the course but I fulfilled my goal of having some fun.

The highlight was definitely the warm-up and cool-down with Fritz. It was fun getting to talk with him some.

Hope you are all gorging on food. I'm going to now.

PM: Enough is enough, put back on my clothes late afternoon and headed out the door. Ran up Dry creek for the first time in months. Took the trail all the way to City Creek and then back on 11th. It was a deserved and relaxing run. Shame about the air quality today. At least I was looking down on it. Really gave the impression of the "shoreline" that the smog, oops it is Utah so we have to say it the nice way, "inversion" looked like the water it was so thick... AM: The good and the bad thing about writing is it can take place anywhere. The last two days in lab were fraught with interruptions so I worked from home last night and this morning. It is nice to role out of bed and just start. So by the time Sandra got back from dropping the girls off at school I already had a good 3 hr of work done. So we decided to go for a rare run together. We did the Suicide Loop. The air looked much clearer and the temperature was nice. Two daytime runs in a row nice to see the sun. However, back to the writing. I wish I could write even half as well as I can run, but I am SO SLOW when it comes to putting "pen to paper" so to speak.
