| So today was my first day as a professor. Assistant professor but still a start. Really it signifies the end of a 30 year race and a start to the next 30 year race. Since kindergarten I said I wanted to be a scientist and now at 35 I have my own lab. The next few years are going to be a whole new set of challenges. From the perspective of the blog one of the most critical is keeping the balance I have worked so hard to nurture throughout the training. No run today but I did have a great day. Even started with a publication being accepted. |

| Still up before my alarm. But at least I got some decent sleep. I was up once or twice through the night with some storm action. This led to a very muggy run but it still felt good. I pushed a few stretches but still kept it relaxed. Anxious to get back to real training but need my schedule a little better defined and need a target race. | Did a few more miles with some spots a bit quicker but my heal did complain. Even with that it was a nice run. Then the day was chores around the house. I have to give it to Craftsman. We had purchased a lawnmower and weedwacker in St. Louis. They spent the last 7 years in storage as our last place had lawn care with the rent. I just filled them with the right gas and oil combos and they started right up. The lawnmower did need a gas line replaced which turned out to be the rest of my afternoon but all and all happy to have that done and to have mowed the grass again for the first time in over 7 years. | One of the few days I slept until my alarm. Overall a good day but no time for a run. Started with church then off to a house warming for a neighbor followed by guests visiting us. After the girls went down though I had to work instead of run... Up until midnight. |

| I can count on one hand the number of times I have been woken by an alarm clock since moving to Alabama. I hope that means I'm just getting enough rest. Up early and into lab to start the week. A very busy day. It is amazing how quickly things pile up. Now that I'm officially in the system a number of items have popped up that need to be taken care of. It is good and I am but it is keeping me from finishing off some work for Utah. I want that done so I can move on. In the evening I decided I needed a run so I went and did a little extra. | Up early for a run and then into work. Today had a number of paperwork surprises. It seemed like every time I opened my in box there was another e-mail that actually needed attention. I'm used to a lot of e-mail but normally 90% could be put aside. Lately it seems like 90% needs to be addressed and usually within a day or two. A little tough adapting but I enjoy the challenge. | Evening run. Started right as the sun was going down. Saw a few dozen bats circling the nearby field. I pushed a few segments of this run. On the way back the deer were out. I saw two solos and a group of 4 for 6 total.
Avg. 7:47 HR 108, no way my heart rate was that low. Will try and get a new battery to see if that makes a difference

| This getting up a little after 4 A.M. thing is working out pretty well. Get in a good run. Get to work and still have an hour or so before other bodies show up. Very productive mornings. That being said nothing special about the run. It was slow. I did not get a chance to test the HR monitor. I have another one laying around so I'll see if I can find it and switch out if my mom's Sea Level theory pans out. It makes sense there is more oxygen in the air so hopefully more goes through the body per heart beat. 3 runners, 3 walkers, and 2 deer this morning...
