| Up early to get in a workout. Not as much as I would have liked but I needed to do some work this morning. Then a fun family day. A walk, some pool time, errands, and ended with a burger and shake from B&D. Then back to the computer for a couple hours. The run went well. Not as fast as I would have liked either but I've upped my mileage and downed my sleep so I'll take anything at this point. The two 5Ks are very different and I decided due to time and fatigue to scrap the third repeat.

| It is what it is. When my alarm went off at 5am this morning I promptly turned it off and got up at 8am with the girls. It wasn't a planned day off but probably a needed one. Got in some pre-birthday fun after church with work sprinkled before and after. |

AM: Ran with Thomas this morning. This is something we've talked about before but only our second successful attempt. It was nice to have the company on this longer run in. The weather was perfect for running this morning. Did the Memory Grove commute. Was ihn nicht umbringt, macht ihn stärker. -Friedrich Nietzsche Twilight of the Idols (1888) This was my work mantra back in 2011, and has definitely come up in a number of other instances. Yesterday was no exception. I had a great day, work went well, daughter's birthday went well, and even the writing I did went well. But at 3am when I finally left lab I was wiped. Slept in a little this morning and straight back to it. Today's deadline was an intermediate one. The biggie is next week although my to do list will not get any shorter after that the hard and fast deadlines will be calm for about a month.

Up early to get a little work done. Then off to The Race for the Cure with the family. This is the 3rd year for my oldest and the first year for my youngest. It was warmer this year but I think they still had a good time. Then back to work until dinner time. To make it feel more like a weekend grabbed subway and drove up to Solitude to eat. It is amazing how much snow is still up there. Hiked around a little before back down for bedtime. Then did an extended Suicide Loop with SugarHouse and a little them. | PM: Today was a different kind of a day. Went to be a little earlier last night and got up at 4am to get some work done. Then worked more or less until 4pm (minus breakfast/lunch). By that time I needed a run and it had cooled to a surprisingly comfortable 80F. I didn't have much time before dinner and wanted to hit it hard. I did the Suicide Loop + SugarHouse. One guy I passed on Foothill told me to slow down, that I was making him look bad :) It was a good run. Then dinner and a little family time before getting back to the grant. This one is due tomorrow and then I start the transition paperwork for the other grant. As I said at the beginning of the month, May is going to be crazy! This was a long week. It was super busy but at the same time I feel like I didn't even chip away at the "to do" mountain. When I saw the rain this morning I thought about bailing but I'm glad I didn't. I ran from home up City Creek. It was pretty cold up there. To the point that my hands went numb. Then after coming back down headed past the Temple over to Liberty Park. By the park it was nearly balmy out. Then the climb up 13th to home. Overall a very enjoyable run. | I honestly have no grip on how time works. It seems like no matter what you do it slips through your fingers. I think the main thing is that my expectations of what can be completed in a day are unrealistic. I did sleep in and it felt nice. We then went to church and brunch with some friends. After that it was work for a few hours and a run right before dinner. Then back to work until midnight. I'm really curious how I'm getting to get everything done before the move... The run felt nice even though it was windy and rained some. Did the south loop to the foot bridge.

| AM: Slept in a little so no A&W but I did do mid-campus. Then a day of meetings. I spent from 8:45am-3:30pm in some sort of meeting or discussion about data. | PM 1: Got a ride in after sleeping in so that I was completely wrecked today. But then did a direct commute run home after Thursday seminar. Mi 2.5 Avg. 6:43 HR 149 PM 2: Had ever intention of coming in and just doing the Memory Grove overlook run. But when I pulled into the parking lot at work the mountains beckoned. So I headed up Dry Creek. Even ran into someone I know. It was so perfect. I forget how beautiful Dry Creek is in the spring before everything is desert. There are so many flowers. The yellow reflecting the sun, the points of purple, pink and some of the most beautiful blue only to be marked with the most marvelous white. Truly breathtaking. Today was a hard day. It was the day I officially turned in my resignation. Even though it is not final until July 31 they need it for fiscal year planning. The run was definitely needed. I even hammered Memory Grove. Couldn't get under that 5 min mark though. But coming cold off of the increased stress and lack of sleep I think it was still smoking.

| Happy Memorial Day and thank you to all the Vets out there. Today was a good day. A bit of everything. Slept in and then my daughter came to work with me. She had been asking for awhile. She stayed a little over an hour and then went home to have fun with mommy. Ended up working most of the day but left early for a hike and then a picnic with the neighbors.
