Russian champion tries Crocs, commits to racing a marathon in them

Nikolay Chavkin in the video below did 3x1000, first two in Adidas carbon-fiber models, the last one in Crocs. Surprised by the result (2:52, 2:52, 2:50) with the fastest interval done in Crocs, he committed to racing a marathon in Crocs if the video gets 42K likes and 195 comments (for 42 km 195 m, the marathon distance). Nikolay's current marathon PR is 2:14:00. The video was created by a Russian sporting goods store chain. Their moto is "more sports - brighter life", which we think is wonderful, and also deserves a Like. If you want to see a fast marathon in Crocs, go to the video and click the Like button. And make sure to share it with your friends.

5 miles TM at 8:35 ave. pace at 6:45 a.m.  9:30-8:30 on slight incline for 2.5 miles, then 8:30 increasing to 7:30 for 2.5 flat miles.  13+" of snow last night and still snowing.  That's no April fools joke.  We got major lake effect out here in the Tooele foothills!

5 miles at 6:00 p.m.  43:30 moderate effort, 8:42 ave pace.  Last two in 7:57 and 7:50 to finish.  SR 36 and Skyline up into Elk Ridge and back via Loma Vista and Upland loops.  The snow is melting and the roads mostly dry.  Half way through the run it starts snowing again.  It's really coming down again at 7:00 p.m.

18.5 miles.  Had the day off and decided to do my long run today to avoid tomorrow's incoming storm.  (As if I can believe anything those weather dudes say.)  10:20 a.m.  Beautiful, clear and sunny morning.  A bit chilly at first but warmed to the high 40's by the end.  18.5 in 2:38:21, 8:33 ave. pace.  Slowest mile on the Smelter hill in 9:24.  Fastest mile at mile 11 in 8:00.  Ran the Smleter Road hills to mile 6 and back then down Droubay Rd. through Erda to the north end of Stansbury.  Felt pretty good.  Didn't really push it much.  Registered for St. George today.  Cost is up this year to $85.  $70 for my discounted registration.  Hotel is also confirmed.

6 miles in 53:17, very easy run.  8:53 average pace.  Noon run to mouth of Middle Canyon and back via Jr. High.  Weather guys said it was supposed to rain and snow overnight into this morning, but it's just been cloudy.  I'm still glad I ran my long run yesterday, it was really a nice clear and sunny morning.

5 miles at 5:05 a.m.  Very easy, muddy at the gate.  37 degrees.  Standard Skyline Route.

5 miles at 6:15 p.m.  Fairly easy in 44:58.  Bagged the tempo run due to wet, stinging snow coming down after the first 1/2 mile.  Got worse throughout.  Skyline, Broadway, 7th to Utah Avenue, zig-zagged home via the Jr. High School route.  Winter is back tonight.

5 miles easy at 5:05 a.m.  Even colder at 30 degrees, but supposed to warm up nicely today to 60.  We'll see.  I have an evening 7 miler, so I hope that's the case.  I'm sick of winter.

7 miles moderate to tempo pace.  6:10 p.m.  58:11, 8:18 ave. pace.  Cemetery and Broadway route to Vine and up Middle Canyon 1/2 mile down to Smelter Road and zig-zagged through town back home.  Very nice evening.  59 degrees, sunny and clear.  Long sleeves way too warm tonight.  Felt good most of the run.

7:30 a.m. run.  35-45 degrees.  Mostly sunny.  Up the Smelter Road hills to gate past mile 6 and then back down and thru Erda to the north end of Stansbury.  10 with Tina on her 13 mile run.   A good run.  5 minutes faster than last week for the same route.  Tina pushes the downhills pretty good.  Slowest mile: 9:39 on steepest Smelter Rd. hill.  Fastest:  Consecutive 7:13, 7:16, and 7:14 at miles 10-12 into Erda.  Average pace:  8:17.  A local bike race event was going on along the course on Smelter Road.

20 mile run in 2:51:20, 8:34 average pace.  8:00 a.m. on the Smelter Road hills to turn-around point at 5 mile flat, back down through Erda on Droubay Road and up over the knoll on the gravel road down through Lakepoint along the old Lincoln Highway and frontage road to the Truck Stop.  Got there just in time for Sharon to pick me up.  Felt good about my first 20 miler and 60 mile week for this year.  A very nice day.  Nearly 60 degrees starting out and bit too warm finishing up. Fastest mile was 7:44, slowest 9:29 on the big hill.  Fairly easy effort most of the run.

11 mile run starting out at 5:10 a.m. with Elaine for 5 very easy on Skyline to gate and back.  Then another 6 miles along Vine and up Middle Canyon a mile and back home.  A nice morning and a day off from work.

Watched the Boston Marathon coverage on Universal Sports.  Channel 5-2 (KSL) opted to lop off the first 1/2 hour and not show the Elite Women's start just to show a stupid info-mercial.  I couldn't believe it!  Tracked a few bloggers and other runners on the  B.A.A. site.  Everyone I knew of did very well.  Looked to be an almost perfect day.   A new course record at Boston in 2:05:52 (Wow!) by Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot (not to be confused with 4x winner Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot, almost the same name, but a different dude).  Both the Men's Wheelchair and the Women's Marathon went right down to the wire!  The women always have a more exciting race.  Ryan Hall was 4th in 2:08:47 and Meb Keflezighi 5th, in 2:09:26, both of the U.S.A.  2 of the top 5 and 3 of the top 10 were Americans.  Rohatinsky must have dropped out past half way.

20 miles this morning.  Starting with at 5K Fun Run for the Special Olympics fundraiser in 22:22, a 7:13 average pace.  Splits were:7:38, 6:58, and 6:42.  5th place overall of 100+ runners.  Then I headed up Smelter Road and turned around at 6.5 miles.  Then back down Droubay Road through Erda into Lakepoint.  Headed to Stansbury along the road above Adobe Rock and finished at the Benson Mill church.  Ran a pretty easy pace, but still struggled some the last 2 or 3 miles.  2:53:31 total time, including the 5K.  Nice day, a bit chilly waiting for the race to begin.  Long sleeves were too much for the last 5 or 6 miles.  A good effort overall.  Second consecutive 60 mile week.
