58 degrees, a bit windy, blue skies shining on me, nothing but blue sky do I see...

4 easy miles during lunch - tried to get the guy I share my office with to tag along (he's going through a separation and hasn't been well lately, I thought getting out would cheer him up) but he was only able to go 1 mile and said his legs hurt... so I kept going around Rock Creek and Dumbarton Oaks park. Very pretty. Left shin hurt, right didn't, and just above my right ankle there's something tender, so I won't run tomorrow. I think it's just a sore muscle that needs to calm down, nothing serious - icing now.

Biked to Bethesda from the office in the evening, 10 fast miles against the wind, a gradual uphill, on the Capitol Crescent trail all the way. An awesome ride.

You make me want spring. I wish I could help you more with those shin issues. I think I might get a second opinion about orthotics. I finally got a pair I really like. I had shin problems growing up and they stink. Super painful.

Thanks Josse... Orthotics may be a good idea that I dismissed too fast... I'll look into that.

Have you tried strengthening your shins?

If you put one leg slightly in front of the other and put your hands on your front knee and tap your toes for 30 sec to a minute, it'll get your shins stronger.

I learned that from a friend who ran steeplechase for the Academy.

Feel free to disregard, I remember last time you tried a pistol :)

LOL that is funny Mike. I have been also stretching my shin and ankle much more then I use to. Mostly from doing the one legged stance thing. I think they call it the drunken flamingo or something. Just stand on one leg for up to a min then change to the other leg. Helps work your ankle and calve along with a few other spots. Once you get that down or on your last set try it with your eyes closed.:) Its been helping me out alot.

Hehe... I'll try the tapping, thanks Mike! I've been picking up a towel from the floor and dropping it while I'm sitting at my desk -

Mark, I've been doing the leg raises on one leg (standing with only the ball of your foot on a step, and lowering yourself down and up until your leg burns). I think something is working... Thanks guys!

I love that exercise Mark. I'm just to self-conscious to wave my arms around with my eyes shut in a public place.
