Raced the Westchester Veterun 10k.  35:58

This was a great race. Not just time wise, but for race toughness as well. I was able to perform a manual override on that negative little man that starts heckling you when you begin to feel the wear of the race, and I beat that little man too!!!!! I fell asleep during mile 3....but I woke up again and ended up running a negative split. Either the second and third miles splits were off, or I was in a coma instead of just snoozing a bit.

Mile 1: 5:40
Mile 2: 5:30
Mile 3: 6:16  (17:26)
Mile 4: 5:50
Mile 5: 5:45
Mile 6: 5:35  (17:06)
End .2: 1:23 (5:35 pace)

Other than MIle 3, which stinks whether they messed up the markers or not, a pretty solid performance. The course was flat and beautiful, the weather was ideal, and I stayed in the race almost the entire time (Hooray I'm on my way back!). The last .2 my legs were rubberized, and afterwards I had soreness to be expected. I think the negative splits show that I'm ready to run even faster, but the rubberization may have been worse had I not fallen asleep... Who knows? We'll see. Either way this was a nice benchmark test. I'm just gonna keep pluggin' away!

Great job!! Fastest 10K since 2004? What's next?

From Annie on Sun, Nov 11, 2007 at 19:43:15

Gasparilla, Some local races (with stiff comp... it is chicago!), the Indy mini, 25k Championships for sure, and possibly Mt. SAC... Jenny and I are going to sit down and hash it out this week. Thanks for the props... I was happy (not satisfied... but happy). This was only my 3rd 10k ever (not counting the Strawberry festival one I ran in 7th grade 41:50 something i think), and I've never run one on the track. I felt like I had definitely made progress in my quest to learn that distance.

Are the 25K champships still in Grand Rapids next year? If so, I will probably see you there. I looked at that Gasparilla race and was put off that they only had prize money for Florida locals. What's the deal with that? Other than that, it looked pretty good.

From Annie on Sun, Nov 11, 2007 at 20:11:21

Yep the 25k is still in G.R. That would be fun! I think the indy mini falls right around there so I may have to scratch that! The whole Gasparilla prize$$ thing made me upset too. I guess it used to be a premier race, but they stopped bringing in elite runners. It is still well respected, and I need a winter race this is the cheapest for me. My in-laws have a condo near there, and a car. My Brother in-law can get me too and from the airport. It basically free except for the plane ticket and I just covered that with my race winnings. It makes the most sense for me, for a winter race. If you want to do it you are more than welcome to use my resources as well. I can see where it wouldn't make as much sense for you though. BAsically the idea is to go down there and roll one out and set myself up for bigger things.

Great job on the race, you should click the little race box so you can track your races. Look like your running great.

Great race! What did you place?

From Annie on Sun, Nov 11, 2007 at 20:46:30

I was first overall woman. There were some decent women there, from this area. Second place was a mid 37 something. She (Suzanne Ryan) Is training to qualify for the O.T. and is logging 90 miles weeks, just finished Chicago etc. Same story for third (Amy Haney). They still PR'ed. They lack speed for this distance, but are strong at the longer stuff.

Wow! Great race. You are setting yourself up for big things next year. Isn't it great when you can squeeze down the coma-zone in your races? I hope to someday get rid of them altogether. You are an inspiration for us speed-wannabes!

Almost a PR - very good!
